Gaming W/Jemal: Legends (3.5e d&D) *Recruitment Closed*

first i would like to say thanks to myth for seeing that damian could do some major damage, thou remember i was in the woods with that dragon for the first few rounds it had flat footed ac :( i work with them not getting their dex...

as to letting them get away, may i remind you all that we really have no clue on wether they are or are not evil really, aside from some random statment the old man made, and that could be taken some other way. on that note how many of us were ready to accept his words before they showed up? this all could have been a missunder standing. we wanted them to leave, they wanted us to leave, they didn't threaten any of us untill we started to threaten them. they really wanted nothing to do with us, it was all the old man. this could be the last time we even see them. after we leave and start our quest they just come back get what they want and go thier own way. of course that is not what's going to happen because this is a game but from the logical thought proccesses that we are 'SHOULD' be going through as PC's playing charcaters do we really think that these are our nemises? that these people are going to hunt us down or get in our way, well maybe now that we killed their friend, that is why i try to avoid killing unless neccisary, atleast with this character anyway,

and the way he got 56 str at lv 20? he was going easy on us with a flavor type, not really trying

Voidrazor -
I've looked over the basics, but haven't done a lot of the math yet. Just FYI, there's a lot of stuff on your character that I don't know off the top of my head, so it may take a while for me to work out what does what.

The most important question right now is : How do you cast all your divine spells? I can only presume from the fact that you have 9th lvl spellcasting with 5 wizard levels that all of your PRC's are adding to your wizard casting. (Something you should point out for those PRC's capable of adding to multiple classes, such as Loremaster) As such, what is allowing you the ability to cast higher than 1st level divine spells (Magic Vestement, Persistent Divine Favour, Greater Visage of the diety, etc)?

Rathan - As I stated when I made the ruling, the freedom vs paralysis thing will be on a case by case basis.

Myth (And anybody else who cares) - Bear's level breakdown:
2 LA, 3 Choker (Monsters Manual: They don't actually have an LA, so I made one up)]
1 Monk, 1 Barbarian - PHB
6 Horizon Walker DMG
5 Bearwarrior, 2 Warshaper - Complete Warrior

And for his feats, they're all from the same sources (PHB, Complete Warrior) except the multigrabs, which are Savage Species.

The breastplate is made of all core enchantments stacked onto a single item. The cost came out to around 700,000 GP.

Also, to your other questions:

Also, that aura of evil means it will bestow negative levels to good aligned characters right?
Not neccesarily, Evil items don't automatically bestow negative levels, that's only items that specifically say they do - just like an item has no effect on an evil character soley by virtue of being 'good'. It's still evil, though.
How does he get 56 STR with only one level of Barbarian?
Actually, barbarian is one of the weakest strength boosters in the game - at least, by itself.
The bear had 18 base str +6 Racial +5 levels +5 Inherent(Book) +6 Enhancement=40 base. (Whoops.. I messed up the bears base stats, he should have been 4 stronger... lucky you guys)
The Bear Warrior class means that when it rages, instead of the normal bonuses it becomes a large brown bear, and it gains + 16 str, +2 dex, +8 con instead of taking the Brown Bears physical stats(As would be normal for a shape-changing effet).
Warshaper gives +4 str and +4 con whenever you're shapeshifted.
Total str = 40 'unshifted' + 16 bearshaper + 4 Warshaper = 60 str (As stated above, I actualy had it 4 lower than it should have been).
How is he immune to criticals?
Warshaper's 2nd lvl class ability: Immunity to Critical hits and Stunning Effects (When shapeshifted)
Why take Endurance when other devastating grappling feats are available in the SS? Or even abilities like Rake/Rend come to mind.
Because it's a requirement for the Horizon Walker PRC - Which he was supposed to be using to teleport around when needed, but he got feebleminded instead.
Which book is Frenzied Berzerker in?
Frenzied Berserker(and Warchanter, Oroz's other PRC which gives him the 'gift') are from Complete Warrior, just like the Bear's PRC's - It's a very good book.
I gather the Power Word: Stun was used too early and bear boy had more HPs than i expected?
Yep.
Just remembered: Jemal, if the bear lad is immune to critical hits, why did you roll the crits for Sila's Meteor Swarm? Was it because it's an SLA?
Nope, I'd forgotten at that moment that he was immune to crits, I shouldn't have rolled the crits.

On the side note, Jemal i noticed i did not factor in synergy bonuses for my skills (just saw in the SRD that Knowledge: Arcana grants a bonus to Spellcraft checks.) Also i haven't listed the material component for Shapechange. With your permission i will edit these in the sheet.
Probly a good idea. ;)

Well, one person knows their alignment Arineil knows that the extra holy damage on her sword affected Rho and the Bear, meaning those two at least are(or were in the bears case) evil.. Though it's true that you guys did start the fight, when all they came for was a talk. Being a descendant of War, Rho was easy to goad, but it was still him reacting to PC aggression that caused the fight.

They came in saying "We want to talk to the old man, we don't want to fight you, go on your quest like you were about to do so we can talk to him", and the PC's response was generally "F*ck you, the old man who we weren't sure whether or not we wanted to listen to 30 seconds ago says your a murderer, so we're all going to assume that you're evil!"

Basically, what happened was I described three people who LOOKED like badguys, and gave a (At the time neutral seeming) NPC a single line that led in a similar direction, and from that point on the party committed itself almost immediatley to a fight. The closest any party member got to even trying diplomay was Chevik saying "Please" before telling them to leave.

On that note, I have to ask - Where did everybody get their views on being threatened from? Multiple people referred to being bullied and threatened and endangered, but the NPC's had done nothing hostile until after said posts. My turn to ask A question, And I'd appreciate an answer from each of you: Why did you treat them as hostiles, and do you plan on doing so with all NPCs you meet that aren't immediately introduced by the DM as "GOOD GUYS DON'T KILL PLSTHNX".
Was it just because of the way they looked?
What the elder said?
Why did you choose that point to start believing the elder when before there seemed to be a debate on whether or not to even go along with his 'quest'?

Sounds like it! I'll read it as soon as i have some time.

I can only speak for Sila. Rho and his buddies did not simply come and want to talk. They wanted us OUT first. Sila had just joined the talking (as in, IRL i had just finished the sheet, hence no time for me to talk to the old man). So as i stated IC, Silivrenniel had no desire to have just traveled all the way here and leave immediately at the first guy's intimidation.

Had Rho decided for them to wait their turn until Sila had been told more about her heritage, she wouldn't have had anything against it. Although the Drow (who was not a Drow but that wasn't known at the time) and the elder's words gave Sila an idea that tehse are bad guys indeed.

Also we were still talking (someone tried to intimidate them), when they attacked - initiative was not rolled because we drew the first sword or cast the first spell :)

Further more the way Rho talks - it's insulting and 20th level characters have their pride after all:

"Yes, by all means, go. I'm sure you've more important things to do than stand around here, isn't that right, old man?"
"It is that night, after all, and after you've helped this gaggle of loosers, why not help us?"
Excuse me but calling a bunch of people a "gaggle of loosers" does not show a desire for peace. If this was happening in a pub somewhere he would have gotten his face punched in.

Regarding the journey, i don't know what Jemal has in store for us. But these are 20th level characters - they are not going to drag themselves trough swamps and mountains LOTR style. Discern Location + Gate = Party knocking on the dungeon door. At least that's how i would behave if i was a borderline demigod power-level spellcaster with a powerful group alongside me.

Two reasons gate is not the best mode of travel. The first I can't share b/c your PC's don't know it.
The second I think I went over earlier in this thread: : Gate and plane shift both send you to another plane, not somewhere else on the same plane. You would have to gate to another plane, and then gate from their to your destination on the prime. That's 2 interplanar travels, costing 2,000 XP for each character that utilizes said mode of transportation.

Also we were still talking (someone tried to intimidate them), when they attacked - initiative was not rolled because we drew the first sword or cast the first spell

My point is that the party's response was thus: several of you grabbed at weapons, a couple prepared spells, one said "there will be trouble if you don't leave", and another one called him stupid and threatened to have his arms ripped out (The intimidate you were talking about, which failed by 12, btw.)

Excuse me but calling a bunch of people a "gaggle of loosers" does not show a desire for peace. If this was happening in a pub somewhere he would have gotten his face punched in.
I don't care where you're from, referring to someone as a looser is infinitey less offensive than "You're stupid, Leave or my friend here will rip your arms out" And I never said they wanted peace, or that they were nice people, I just wanted/want to know why you guys decided to react the way you did, so that I can provoke a similar response in the future, or NOT provoke such a response, dependant on the situation.

Just for the record, you're saying that Sila became hostile b/c they called her a looser? (I'm trying to figure out what each of the characters buttons are so that I can push or avoid pushing them in the future)

Jemal, point is - in the introductory post when we first saw Rho he started the namecalling. Whomever told him he was stupid (i had forgotten about this :D) was probably answering his taunt and escalating it a bit further ('cause that's what people do, no?)

I don't care where you're from
is that an expression in English or does it mean you really don't care which part of the world i'm from :) Sorry i'm confused.

By the way, Sila did not become hostile. As a matter of fact she would have never started flinging meteors around first unless physically provoked. She had prepared to counterspell (so she is not caught off guard by what she thought was a Drow Archmage - those can be deadly) but the violence started on it's own and was brought down on her more than anything else (the bear interrupted her counterspell effort).

Had both parties tried to reason Sila would have dismissed the "looser" comment as insignificant - certainly not enough to warrant her risking her life in a fight with other 20th level chars.

"I don't care where your from" is (Usually) used as an expression meaning "I believe that what I'm about to say is true everywhere."

risking her life in a fight with other 20th level chars.
Please don't metagame/assume like that. There will be encounters with characters of levels 1-50 throughout this campaign, I would suggest never assumng that just because someone looks like they may be an "ENCOUNTER", that they are of your aproximate 'challenge level'.
Doing so will make you just as likely to either A: murder a 1st lvl farmer, or B: Piss off a deity. ;) Neither of which is a good thing.

Speaking for Sigil, I can say she'd have been fine talking more, though by the time I posted it was kind of too late. I did try to make her reaction contingent on them though.

I will also say that I got the distinct impression that Rho meant the old man harm, or at the very least was intending to extort cooperation from him. This was made clear when the old man stated he'd already dealt with them...with disastrous results...and told them to leave. Rho then refused, and demanded cooperation from him.

Sigil at the time was positively inclined towards the old man, since she has some history, albeit ancient, with the Warlord. This scene didn't make her very sympathetic towards Rho, though she wouldn't have attacked had it been up to her.

*slaps forehead* well of course!

I mean, i used this expression to illustrate the point OOC. The fact that three would challenge six would mean that they were confident in their abilities enough to pose a threat. Int 36 would mean that Sila can accurately judge if this is a commoner or a deity? Anyway they looked "threatening enough" so to speak to warrant a careful approach.

Hey i tried to reason with the dragon, and it kinda got to i don't stab you, you don't eat me, but our friends are fair game point. after which i tried to stab him but that's really the ex-assassin in me
