Gamma World not OGL?

I was hoping that GammaWorld d20 would be a new source of Open Game Content for me to harvest. Instead, it looks like it's taken the Star Wars d20 approach (even though it seems to be a Sword & Sorcery product?) of adding absolutely nothing new to the game development community.

How is this possible? Do they get around the d20 requirments though some sort of special licence with WotC?

That's right Ki Ryn.

Just like Ravenloft before it, GW is a licensed WotC product and thus is released outside the safe harbor of the Open Game License - it is a driectly licensed d20 product (also like the Kalamar books)

It's rare that Wizards of the Coast would allow a 3rd party publisher to use their material and open it.

Ravenloft, Warcraft, and Kalamar, as noted, are all closed. I'm pretty sure that Dragonlance is too.

Wow, I didn't realize how much "d20" material wasn't OGL. Thank you for the information.

Can anyone point me to a game that is OGL but not d20? That's what I'm working on currently but I haven't found any existing examples (looking for whole games rather than supplements).

Mutants and Masterminds by Green Ronin.
OGL Horror by Mongoose will be OGL, not d20, as will
their cyberpunk game.

Gold Rush Games has released the "Action!" system under the OGL. I don't know if any books have been released using the system or not, but there's a core rulebook out there.

If any company is interested we are offering a free license for Fall of Man so others can produce adventures and supplements, please e-mail me for more information.

Arcana Unearthed and Everquest both use the D&D/d20 rules, more or less, but not the d20 logo (due to having character generation/advancement rules). Both have different races and classes.
