So, basically, there aren't really good deals to be found at GenCon?

Well, that's really not what I meant. As cool as stuff by the major players is (WotC, S&SS, WW), you can get it any time. The GenCon dealers room is where I've discovered a number of small press games I would never have seen anywhere else. IronClaw, Kobolds Ate My Baby, Ninja Burger, Shards of the Stone, Rune the Rpg -- all of those and more I saw for the first and only time at GenCon.

If I'd blown most of my budget at the WotC castle or even just on cool stuff I saw in the first isle, I'd have missed out on some neat stuff tucked in the more out-of-the-way booths. Some stuff is a bargain, some isn't, but nothing sucks quite as bad as seeing the neatest thing you could have imagined and then realizing you spent your last $20 three booths ago (like my first trip to GenCon).

So, basically, there aren't really good deals to be found at GenCon? FOr example, if I want a copy of Pirate's Cove (the board game) I'm probably better off buying it now, rather than waiting for the con, as I'll just be paying MSRP there anyway?

There will be some retailers and second-handers working the room offering deals, but if you're thinking of scoring some cheap product direct from the publisher, it's not likely to happen- at least not on any current releases.

As for what I'm looking forward to buying...
-more dice (for some reason, I can't seem to keep d12's... not like I use 'em very often anyhow, but I'm a completionist, and it disturbs me greatly to have an incomplete set)
-d20 Future
-World of Darkness & Vampire: Requiem
-some cheesy 4XL t-shirts for my sweet baboo

This brings up another point. What have you all heard is debuting at Gen Con this year? I remember when Gen Con was the place to be for new releases, but that died off after 3E a couple of years ago. I remember Hell on Earth being the buzz one year, then of course third edition .. after that ... nothin' much on the way of huge releases, as far as I remember.

What about weird releases ... like Pimp the Role-Playing Game ...

Anyway, talk to you all later!
