Gencon buzz seems much less than last year

Yup. Mostly its publishers disappointed that some of their best products weren't nominated, resulting in some sour grapes. In some cases it's frustration over the one week voting period (and I'll agree that it might be better at two weeks next year, personally.) No big deal.

I decided not to go this year. I just found myself having a hard time getting excited about it. I knew that if I did go, I would have fun, but my job situation is uncertain, and I didn't have a lot of vacation, so I decided against it.

I thought that if my book (Artificer's Handbook) got nominated for an Ennie, I would try to go, but it didn't.

Imagine my frustration when I found out the judges never received a copy of my book. Apparently, the warehouse didn't send it to them, though my publishers requested that they do so. I spent a year and a half on that book, only to get to the Ennies, and not even have it be entered. Nice.

Try not to feed the fire, please. I support the ENnies judges describing their position, but we gain nothing from a board-war. Remember, we like those guys, even when they happen to disagree with us.

1. The move to Indiana was big news last year. Had a lot of people psyched up who didn't normally go.
2. Lots fewer people from these boards aren't going this year, for financial or other personal reasons.

That's almost funny.

"Remember now, everyone...we LIKE them."

Though, seriously, its probably good to try to let those fires die off. Everyone will have problems every year, and PCs right...(apprently ;)) we like them.

heh. there's plenty of buzz. you're just not looking in the right places =)
20th anniversary of Dragonlance has a lot of the DL forums afire =)

No, I totally love the way the Ennies work, even if I haven't heard of 75% of the products being nominated. I'm probably in the minority because I just don't buy that much stuff.

But, it made me aware of "DM hold music", which had to be one of the funniest things I'd heard in a long time.

Actually... we ARE them. There are a LOT of ENWorlders who are also "Your Turn"-izens, and for that matter Dragonsfooters, Necromancers, et. al. If a segment of a board is quite vocal, it puts a spin on people's perceptions of the whole board, when the truth of the matter is that most of its members are sypathetic or just neutral to a given opinion. That's why insulting members of other forums is counter-productive: You are biting off your own toes to spite your foot.

It's definitely interesting, though.
