Question: Where is the Academy of the Chromatic Order? I read the proposal thread, and there was a tentative guess of a place called Tharol, which was thought by the creator to be the capital of the empire that founded the Order, but then the creator of the empire popped in and said that Tharol isn't even in that empire, and then I couldn't find anything conclusive. Also, in case the PCs in my little side-quest wind up going there, I'm just checking to see if there is any other info out there beyond that proposal thread. That is, has any adventure gone to visit there before? If not, all the better as far as I'm concerned, but I don't want to conflict anything.

The academy of the chromatic order needs to be located at the heart of the ancient empire, wherever that is. I hadn't pursued it, I see, to the point of confirming a location. At some point, I may start a series of adventures based on the origins of the academy (that point would be once I finish my M series, which should end by M5). It is an old academy, and to some extent, still believes the empire will return.

Beyond this, if anyone wants to explore a bit where it should go, that would be great. I don't have a vision as to what it looks like, exactly, so if you want to include it Rystil, feel free to use your imagination. In retrospect, I realize it seems vaguely like Hogwarts, with Sice taking the place of Salazar Slitherin. For what its worth, Sice, Omega and Mordrue were PCs in a 1E campaign I played in years ago. (OK - I'm old. It was a couple decades ago, actually.)

EDIT: OK. I reviews the main thread. Medabaria's captial was never named. Wizworm created a different city, named Tharol, which I carelessly assumed was the capital of Medabaria. If anyone wants to create a new captial name for Medabaria, then that's where the Academy is. Perhaps the captial could also be called Medabaria. (Worked for Rome!)

Hmm...looks like it's going to be tough for the poor PCs to find it, then, if it doesn't have a home :D Where would it be on the map, even?

I think we should call the city dot above the 'of' in the Kingdome of Medabaria the capital city, Medabaria City. It's actually right in the middle of things. That's a good place for it. As its so close in, perhaps we should assume that most of the central lands were once part of the ancient empire. That might explain the common language.

That makes sense. Hmm...

Next question: How fallen is this Empire? Not looking at the map at first, based on the description of the order, I had placed it in the ruins of a once-grand city (a really cool site for a magic academy!), where only the stubborn traditionalists who held the fallen empire's arcane secrets still remain, and I even mentioned that in my adventure, but when I went to look on the map, it seems to have its own political boundary in a dotted line :uhoh: I need to know this because I may have to edit what I've done so far.

I don't think WizWrm is with us anymore, so we can do what we will with this area. His description indicates the empire does still exit, it's just quite small and weak now. I see the Academy as the premier wizard training program in Enworld. I don't think people would go there much if it lacked amenities. I think Medabaria city should still possess some wealth, and the academy itself should be quite wealthy. But the town could well still be someonewhat ruined, the people not having the resources or will to repair the once-mighty walls and monuments.

Something a bit different

Judges: Would it be possible (or a good idea) to ask around the Inn for some characters, talk to the players a bit, and then write and submit an adventure for approval?

It strikes me that it might work a bit better (and easier) to try it that way rather than for me to sit here in isolation and write an adventure, hoping the characters who end up in it will work out.

Cheers,
Roger

That's an awesome idea, Roger. Many of the PCs have nice backgrounds repleit with adventure hooks. It would be great if these were mined more by DMs.
