Comparing SW to the MCU as media properties is quite an interesting exercise, not least because they’re both owned by Disney now.
MCU is of course a much more recent phenomenon with its heyday being about 2008-2019, a run of 23 films which are generally very well regarded. Since then there have been 12 films whose reception has been more varied, and 12 TV series ditto. But the juggernaut still has plenty of momentum and is still turning out decent media that many people enjoy and pay to see. If any franchise has a lock on money forever for the investors, it’s this one.
SW is older, smaller, and more fragmented, with only 11 films and 14 TV series. Again, reception after the first few films is very variable. It’s very much not a juggernaut and arguably still finding its way - on the face of it there’s not much that unites Solo, Rogue One, Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew. Good returns at the box office are not guaranteed. But that also makes it more interesting to monitor - what will SW decide it is today?
