Genre Show Cancellations

:] :] :] :]
Unfortunately, they seem to control a lot of money..

And great point about Cassidy! I hadn't thought about that at all, but you're right, it's no great surprise! Well, except that he apparently didn't learn from AG that you just can't do that in modern TV and expect an audience.

Another really good but prematurely cancelled Cassidy project was Roar!, featuring a young Heath Ledger.

Not very many mainstream people play MMORPG's; WoW might be one of the first to attract some of them because it's the only American MMORPG to break a million subscribers, I think. When you start seeing subscriber bases in the tens of millions instead of the hundreds of thousands, then you can say the MMORPG's have 'arrived'.

Hmmmm. I wouldn't think CW would pick it up, as they have a ton of their own shows to pick. Including one in the same genre "Supernatural", which may or may not get re-newed.

Actually they had said as much that Supernatural would be one of the shows the CW was going to keep. Smallville, of course, but what really confused me is that they are trying to bring back a show they had just cancelled...7th Heaven. Here's to hoping they make a good decision and take on Veronica Mars so I can see it. My cable service doesn't get UPN but does get WB, which they have said will begin airing the CW when it starts up.

As for my input on the three sci-fi shows that tanked this year, I can only say this, I really enjoyed Surface and followed all the way until it's unfortunate end. This would an interesting series for them to cap with a Mini-series. Invasion was meh. I never even got a chance to set my DVR for Threshold, to check it out, before it was cancelled, but I'm not surprised with a sci-fi show being cancelled on CBS. Les Moonves (or whatever his name is), the guy who heads CBS is a rat bastard and has said he doesn't believe in these shows so never really backs them. I watch very few shows on CBS these days. The Unit is about the only thing I actually watch off CBS anymore to be honest.

A lot of good shows were killed before their time, because of the stupidity of network execs, and because of the stupid way that tv ratings are done.

ABC officially cancelled Invasion.

NBC officially cancelled Surface.

CBS have already cancelled Threshold.

For the first two, it sucks because they're pretty good or at least decent. The last I felt a little sad but not surprised for a Braga production show.

Yeah, bad news day for SFF TV. There's also this:

No more Angel

Threshold had a couple of interesting characters I wanted to see more of, but overall I wasn't too upset to see it go. Surface finally got going toward the end of the season, with even the Miles storyline not seeming like an utter waste of time.

And Invasion has really been building into something good lately. Cut down before its prime, just like American Gothic.

As much as I agree with you on that bastard Les Moonves, even I cannot support Threshold.

Maybe my judgment is still clouded by the way Braga (and his partner-in-crime, Berman) have run the Trek franchise into the muddy ground, but I tried watching Threshold and that show could not impress me. The only reasons I feel sad for are the wise-cracking little guy and Brent Spiner being out of work temporarily.

While that provide some comfort, I'm hoping it would only reach less than 50,000.

Brent Spiner has had a lot of luck doing live theatre. Between that and money from Trek movies, I don't think the man is hurting :)

Which is not to say that I don't want to see him on TV. I'd love for him to get a spot on a good genre show...
