Gestalt Aeranal Elf in Eberron

We're starting a new Eberron campaign, using gestalt. One of the guys wants to play an Aeranal Elf. Given their peculiar attitude and outlook, what suggestions can I (as DM) give him to make this particular character unique? I have no problems shuffling around minor rules. He was leaning towards paladin/cleric (Deathless & Good) but has shifted towards Fighter/cleric (Deathless & Good). I understand he really wants to play on the deathless theme.

We are using every WotC book under the sun. All suggestions are of interest.

... to make him unique... that's tough.

Let him fight with some customtailored hookweapon?

As char build, I'd suggest to take a look at the UA paladin as prestigeclass... that would keep his cleric spellcasting pretty good while giving him the paladin stuff a bit later.

Deathless isn't one of the better domains. Its spells and powers really don't match Eberron's fluff concerning the deathless. As well as Good and Protection there are some alternate domains listed in Faiths of Eberron.

Some of the fluff you can work with - Aereni historically hate the undead (negative energy based) more than most. The Players Guide to Eberron suggests that Aereni tend to specialise in some skill so as to increase their chances of being respected enough to become one of the deathless rather than being consigned to the catacombs after death, which works with the fighter idea (or with anything from the Book of 9 Swords, if you're using that.)

They do have druids as well as clerics and there's a feat (I think in Races of Eberron) which improves a baboon animal companion for Aereni druids, but this may not work for this PC.

In the Tome of Magic, there's a class called the Binder. One of the vestiges you can bind (Leraje) was practically made for Aereni, though the background isn't Eberron specific it wouldn't take much work to make it so. A fighter \\ binder, later getting the Knight of the Sacred Seal PrC would be one scary archer.

It's a bit older but I would suggest Hunter of the Dead PrC. It's a solid build with one thing in mind. If you don't use favored classes or multi-class penanlties... a level in Ranger for Favored Enemy: Undead would help add some focus to the character.

Hope this helps,
