Gestalt Characters from a DM point of View

The other combos that work are Fighter-Rogue (feats + skills = yeah!), and the Fighter-Fighter. I don't know if that last one is legal, but think of the feats!

We're about to start a Gestault game (13th level), because we have 2 players. I have the Cleric-Fighter, and my wife will play the Rogue-Sorcerer. Improved Inviso... sneak attack... lots of sneak attack... I feel so pathetic with my Power Attack and Divine Might and Quickened Divine Favor.

PS

I just dont' see how a Fighter-Rogue can stack up, seriously.

Consider you could have a Rogue-Cleric, or Rogue-Sorcerer, or Rogue-Wizard. Or Rogue-Druid for some really wonky action.

Rogue-Fighter gives you... well... a few bonus feats and a few more BAB and some hit points.

Does a few bonus feats+a few more BAB+a few extra hit points EQUAL full spellcasting progression? Of cousre not.

A 10th level Rogue-Sorcerer or Rogue-Druid would decimate a Rogue-Fighter. The Rogue-Fighter simply doesn't have as many options, and that's what spellcasting gives you -- options. Plus better saves.

Above 10th level it's even more clear -- 6-9th level spells (any class) are far more useful than feats and bab. Heck, they can substitute for BAB and Hitpoints directly with the right spells...just not feats. Can't have everything.

Rogue-Druid. Hm...grappling dire bear sneak attack. That's something to consider! ( you DO lose dex when grappling, right? )

TWF, full iterative attacks, high bonus per attack, lots of damage per attack, sneak attacks, feats concentrated on combat as opposed to spread to cover spellcasting, twice as many feats, concentrated ability scores instead of spread over 4,5,6 abilities, an allied spellcaster to do all that annoying buff work.

If you can't make a Fighter-Rogue work, you're just not trying.

Well, isn't that a wide sweeping generality... I guess if Fighters are really outclassed in your unGestalt game, then it would also be true for the Gestalt version. I just don't see it... YMMV

Out of curiosity, can Gestalt characters multiclass? I mean, say you take 4 levels of Fighter/Rogue, could your next level be Monk/Ranger, followed by a level of Barbarian/Rogue?

Just askin'....

Sure can... The book just asks that you check with your DM before going into MT or EK from divine/arcane classes and ftr/arcane classes respectfully.

We've outlawed both multiclassing and prestige classes. UA recommends restrictions on prestige classes for obvious reasons.

But if you just let your mind wander you can make up some seriously ridiculous characters... :)

Heh - That is some major Cheese Merak!

That would be hilarious.

As far as multiclassing/PrC's go, I am not sure I would want those in a Gestalt campaign.

So something totally, unbelieveably crazy like Druid 20/Monk 16/Fighter 4 would be all legal...
It sure is, but you are still limited to the same amount of stuff you can do per turn... 3.0 haste didn't make it back into this book.

It really depends on the character you want... I've seen a character with his one side as a sorcerer, and the other side a Rogue/fighter/ Invisibile blade, work very well. YMMV
