They DO use PDFs. They even encourage it’s use. DMsGuild, UAs, the free Monstrous Compendium, Adventurers League docs, etc.

The anti PDF thing for products on shelves is a sop to stores. It used to also be about piracy but frankly DnDBeyond is a much easier site for pirates, and they have to know that.

The thing about the 4e PDF piracy issue was the stores complained loudly at GAMA.

Every game company I can think of other than WotC uses pdfs for their current products. I'm there are some that don't, but it is not just "smaller" companies. Besides, everyone in the industry is smaller than WotC, so that doesn't really say much.

How are pdfs obsolescent? A format being around for a while doesn't automatically make it out of date or less useful. Name a format that does everything pdfs do better.

I understand why sharing a paid for product is (in the eyes of the market/maker) but the free stufff i wish was a shareable pdf... I technicly printed the pages to a PDF, but it has a weird page break

They must have a reason, but on its face it strikes me as not just dumb but also anti-consumer.
