Getcher very own magic sword from Hasbro!

Be careful when buying LotR replica swords. Make sure you know what you are getting. There are two authorized makers -- United Cutlery and the Noble Collection. The United Cutlery swords are cheaper, and the quality is not as good. The blades are OK, but they skimp on the other details.

For example, the United Cutlery Sting uses a painted stencil for the vine-and-leaf pattern on the handle. Noble Collection Sting uses actual metal inlays of the pattern into the wood handle. Same thing with Arwen's sword -- painted on pattern versus actual metal inlay.

Most dealers sell the United Cutlery versions. As far as I know, the Noble Collection is only available from the Noble Collection.

We have the little plastic One Ring that came with a bookmark. The last thing we need are swords.

Though you haven't lived until you've heard your kids arguining over whose turn it is to wear the One Ring. "Anyone in there says she's playing Smeagol and THERE WILL BE TROUBLE!"

Oh, and you can add this to the list of "toys you would have loved as a kid, but which make your mom's hair turn prematurely gray" :)

and both noble and united collections are good for displaying on your hip and wall. And maybe cutting butter.

 As if these would be better. Actually, since they are movie props, they probably look pretty crappy up close, and aren't what you think they are... I've seen too many movie props up close to be fooled into thinking these would be anything special.

Do I want the Lord of the Rings Monopoly Edition, or Risk Edition, or Trivial Pursuit Edition? Hell no!

Do I want to own Sting? Oh, you cruel and evil tempter, how can you even tease me with such a question?

Sure, I would've bought Sting back during the Police days (just as a chick magnet or a conversation piece), but not now since he's gone all Tantric. Maybe during the Dune era. That would've been cool, to have Feyd Harkonnen hanging around all the time.

Yeah, but the reason you woudl want these is not because they are good weapons or show pieces but because they were in the movie. :)

Zhrue, I'd still buy Sting if he would shout "the Righteous" at all of my DnD sessions when I have a paladin around.

And then the nearest messiah says: "There is a Harkonnen among you! Give the Harkonnen a blade..."

While it would rule to have an actual prop from the LotR movies, these are probably just the rubber replicas that they used for when someone really needed to get hit. If you have the extended edition DVD set, you know what I'm talking about.

I bought the LOTR Risk game last year when it came out. Aren't they supposed to do expansion boards for the game? I haven't heard any release dates for those, tho...
