Getting hit with a bowl of soup

In the next session of my Eberron game, there's going to be a battle on a lightning rail train, probably when dinner is being served. I was just thinking of some of the things that PCs and NPCs might do, and I just wondered how to handle someone throwing a bowl of soup in someone else's face. So here are my questions:

1) What would be the mechanics for the actual hurling? Ranged touch attack with -4 (soup is presumably an exotic weapon :D) penalty and 5 ft range increment?

2) What would be the effects of being hit in the face with a bowlful of soup? DC 10 Ref (Will?) save or be blinded for 1 round?

3) What about if it is really hot soup? How much difference does mulligatawny, gazpacho or manticore broth make?

4) Should there be croutons or would that be powergaming?

Anything else I should consider :p ?

Stuffer Shack !!

(for those who know Shadowrun :D)

Ranged Touch sounds fine for the soup, damage should be no higher than 1 pip.

I'd call soup an improvised grenadelike weapon, so a ranged touch attack with the -4 penalty sounds right.

For really piping hot soup-- freshly served, still too hot to eat-- I'd let a direct hit do 1 point of heat damage, and possibly stun the target for 1 round (Fort DC 11 negates). Creatures within 5' of the impact point take no damage, but smell delicious for 1d4 hours (Reflex DC 11 negates).

A circumstance penalty to Diplomacy or other Charisma-based skills might result, as long as the affected character has soupcrotch or egg-on-the-tie.

"Oh dear, Lord Ascot is positively drenched in cream of cauliflower."
"Tsk. Dreadful."

Heh, Stuffer Shack... ah the memories. :)

Anyway, soup? Improvised (-4 to hit) grenadelike weapon, 1 pt subdual damage for the bowl on a direct hit, and if it's pipin' hot soup, an additional 1 pt subdual damage from heat (reduced by any fire resistance, endure elements, etc). 1 pt of subdual from heat as splash damage, again only if the soup is pipin' hot.

If they crit with a direct hit, I'd probably have the target blinded for 1 round, 1d3 if the soup were good 'n hot. Hot soup in the eyes. Ow.

Croutons might be a bit munchkin, but it depends on your group. Do you think they can handle the additional power? I've heard of campaigns collapsing because too many croutons were given to the players too quickly.

I admit, that was my campaign, but I think you misheard. The campaign didn't collapse; the table did.

(In my defense, the 450-pound sack of croutons was on sale at Sam's Club...)

now, you're counting in the soup, but what about the bowls?

I think adding str modifier plus 1d2-1d6 dmg depending on the heaviness of the bowl might be in order.
