I don't have it now, but I can go buy it. I was gonna go take a look at Stormwrack (which I do not have either). I wonder if something useful is in it, too. That cloak of the sea sounds like the best suggestion yet, though.

Good Luck with that.
Yeah, thanks. Are you saying that it's an impossible quest? If not, what else can we do to overcome those problems you mention?

The rope was just for the weights & the rope trick, which only works on limited lengths of rope.

The weights will get you to the bottom faster than anything except a really good propulsion system- watch some video of competitive deep divers.

How about polymorphing into a dolphin?

"The polymorphed creature acquires the physical and natural abilities of the creature it has been polymorphed into while retaining its own mind."

I know dolphins dont have hands, so you wouldnt be able to carry the drowned PC back up. Just saying that polymorph could be used to take you down there. Then it is up to you to become creature. Think of the Super Twins from the old JLA. =P One becomes a dolphin, the other an octopus. Or you can do like in the cartoon and transform into a Mammooth and a bucket of water. They seemed to solve everything that way.

If you're going to polymorph inro something, be something that breathes water; technically a person polymorphed into a dolphin can't hole his breath any longer than a regular human (you don't get extraordinary abilities while polymorphed, only attack stuff like improved grab). Unfortunately polymorph only lasts one minute a level, so that's not really a good option.

Doh, it lasts for 1 hour/levle in 3e. I really should stop using my PHB from 3e. Still, maybe it is enough. 1 minute per level means it lasts 11 minutes. Since it is a 4th level spell, the wizard can cast it at least 4 times, thus having 44 minutes to do so. He could swim down there in the polymorphed form just to find where the body is, then teleport back to the surface, with or without the body.

Polymorph into a kraken? Breathes water, can dive to 2000' pretty well, has limbs so it can pick up the corpse, and best of all the other kraken probably won't attack you even if they do see you (unless they are intelligent and magic using kraken).

Charm a kraken to bring the body up with Charm Monster?

The wizard doesn't have polymorph. He has built the character primarily as a 'support' mage (haste, fly, mass cat's grace, etc.). I don't recall if he has charm monster, but kraken are very intelligent and even if we ran across another one, failing to charm it would be a disaster.

The ship you're on will easily have 2000' of rope of various kinds - if it's planning for a long voyage, it might have that much spare rope, but if not you could take down the rigging & splice it together.

Alter Self to the form of an aquatic elf (or similar) might give you water breathing, swim movement, and hands as well.; 10 min/level duration's not bad.
