Giants of Legend or Deathknell?

I bought two cases of GoL, and although I had duplicated rares in the normal size range (two lich necromancers in the first, and a true fiesta of chaotic good dups in the second, with two githyanki renegades, two inspiring marshalls, and two half-giant psychic warriors!

But for the Huge rares, no, it was OK, 3 per cases. Of course, they were somewhat duplicated from one case to the other (got a Storm Giant in both). Since I bought a few boosters as well, I ended up with 6 treants, 5 bulettes, 4 fomorians and four cloud giants, 3 nightwalkers, and two of each other rares. GoL is the only set I have a full collection of (even two full collections of, in fact).

I'd advice getting GoL because you'll have more time to grab Deathknell. :)

Just to let you know, if you are buying them online you are going to be spending half again as much on a case of GoL as you are on a case of Deathknell. They both had good distribution, at least in my experience, and both sets had their hits and misses with the different figures.

If you are just looking at a bulk number of prepainted minis to buy I'd go with deathknell for the sole reason that you could buy more for your money. If you are going for the 'Wow' effect, I'd go with the GoL. The moment you throw the Huge Red, Giants or Glabrezu at your players is a moment to remember as they actually take a look at how big it is compared to their characters. Also, both sets had a good paint job and sculpt quality.

Really just depends on what you are looking for. And as you pointed out, if you aren't necessarily looking for the rares you can pick up the commons and uncommons from Deathknell for cheap; I just got 3 sets of uncommons for $37 includding shipping for deathknell....that's 72 figs. Commons you can get 4 sets (48 figs) for about 20.

Done. Just ordered a case of GoL.

Wish me many Huge Red Dragons (hey, if a lot of people got screwed, there have to be a few gems of cases, right?) and assorted giants.

My friends and I all had 3 Huge Rares to our case, 9 Huge Uncommons.

For GM purposes, GoL is hard to beat, I reckon you made the right call.

GoL is a good choice. I'm of the opinion that, aside from a few figures, Deathknell kinda sucks. I'd even pick Aberrations over Deathknell, but that's just me.

Anecdotal evidence: When my friends and I ordered a case, we got every Huge in it, except for the Behir (which is, incidentally, the coolest mini in the set!). Really good distribution on that one.

My first two GoL huges (started by buying just two from Amazon) were a Behir and a Nightwalker. In the following packs I bought outside of cases, I got Huge Gold Dragon, Warforged Titan, Bulette, Fomorian, and Treant. Weirdly enough, I only got the giants (storm, cloud) and the fiendish T-Rex in the whole cases.

You made the right choice...(and I did get a nice distribution, I hope you also get the Behir)

I bought 6 or so boosters of GoL, and I got one rare huge - but that was the Gold Dragon.

I have several fiendish tyrannusauruses (which I consider almost useless for RPG, but for skirmish, the Greenfang Druid finally makes them viable).

I got into the game somewhere between Archfiends and Giants of Legend, and at first, I got a couple of boosters here and there, and got singles in between. Starting with Aberrations, I got cases. First, I got 12 boosters (but not in a case) from Aberrations (I had pre-ordered 2 cases on eBay, but they never came. I got my money back, but I started in on Aberrations months after I would have wanted), and finally two cases for Death Knell (and several boosters). The rest I get via singles market. Later, I got another 12 boosters for Aberrations (cause they were 50% off, couldn't resist that).

I think I'll continue that scheme: 2 cases at first (plus a couple of boosters), get the rest via singles market.
