The Tanarruk is teh suXX0r. Bleh, back to Harbinger quality.
I could find good use for quite a few City Guards. I always need mooks, especially mook humans. Finding a use for more than one Astral Construct will be much more... difficult.

Yes, the Tanarruk was a good concept but the result is very toyish...

The common creatures became less and less worth once you consider the whole minis line and not just a set. How many orcs do you need? There are already enough orc minis that, if you had one for each, you probably wouldn't need any other.

From the point of view of using minis for the RPG, those common minis are so unuseful, and so "low-level"... I think it would have been better if commons and uncommons were the same thing (not that I like rarity at all, but I can understand some people like rares to exist). In fact, it is very false that in a campaign you're likely to meet more human guards or goblins or skeletons than more powerful monsters, unless you always play at 1st level.

From the point of view of playing the skirmish game, I cannot say because I haven't played it, but I seriously doubt that any skirmish fan use more than a very few commons... since coming up with a unique warband is just part of the strategy!

They are just so shiny... I have to come up with something "else" that they can be. Little silver men could be animated objects, some new golem creatures (that just so happen to use astral construct stats), or maybe something a bit more wild like characters wearing psionic skins or something...

A lot of the commons I have are like that, I get so much of something I'll never really use, so I try to be inventive... but theres only so much you can stretch something...

True, but my group tangles with low-level opponents from 1st to around 8-9th level on a fairly common basis, so those mook minis come in handy.

Bought 4 boxes.

Got 2 Cloud giants (:(), 1 Red Dragon (:D) and 1 Formorian (:))

My other rares were the Inspiring Marshal, Lord Soth (twice) and the Lich Necromancer.

Not totally satisfied with my luck, but I'm happy with the minis.

Damn you guys! I just bought a house and I was trying to hold off on this set but you're making it very difficult. :\

Not in my games. I have human enemies at all levels. In my experience, tactics make battles more interesting than just different kinds of monsters. Plus using unique monsters more sparingly adds to the fun when you do pull them out.

King Snurre is the final Big Bad from module G3, Hall of the Fire Giant King. He's the last big bad in the G Series, and after defeating him (IF they defeat him), they discover clues about his alliance with the Drow, and that leads to the D1/D2 series, and then finally Q1. :)

I think it pretty cool that the minis are currently paying homage to all of the most popular settings like that. Think about it: you get Mordankanein, King Snurre, Lord Soth, the 3E iconics, half-giants from Dark Sun, creatures from Eberron and more. I can't wait to see how long 'til we get Count Strahd, Lord Robilar and his horse, and tons of other characters (who work for both D&D and the minis game).
