Giants of Legend

I have:

2 Formorians
1 Gold Dragon
1 Red Dragon
1 Glabrezu
1 Treant
1 Bulette
2 Nightwalkers
1 Cloud Giant
2 Fiendish Tyros

I also have a Lord Soth, King Snurre, the other Fire Giant, and some other rares that I've already packaged away.

I'm considering selling some of the stuff on Ebay now, as my mini collection is very close to "full" and I've got no reason to keep a lot of the critters.

My pull:

Being a metal mini kind of guy, I have held off on this whole "plastic mini" craze so far. But I thought I'd pick up a box because there's a guaranteed Huge mini in each. That's a pretty good gamble, I figure.

I got:

Displacer Serpent (I'm going to repaint this sucker)
Grick (groovy)
Behir (uber-groovy)
Lidda (feh)
Gnoll Sergeant (not fond of gnolls, but not bad)
Quasit (tiny mini is pretty nifty)
Orc brute (not worth a repaint)
Lich Necromancer (I hear he's in demand. Okay mini, paint job needs work)
Ghast (add this to the pile of misc undead)

Overall, it looks like this is a pretty good series. The behir is totally beautiful. I picked my box by weight, choosing the heaviest one they had on the shelf. That seemed to pay off, since the behir was one of the huge minis I wanted.

I'm probably going to get another couple of boxes...I'd like to come across a dragon (or two), a bulette (should be easy enough), a treant, and an otyugh. Maybe another grick. The rest of the minis look okay, but in general, I'd rather have metal builds of them.

My red dragon is all warped. It's left wing is bent forwards so far that it's below the face. I tried the "boiled water" trick, and it seemed to work for a few hours, but now it's all bent back into place again.

Any other ideas or similar experiences with this sort of problem on a huge? I'm thinking of giving him another dip since he doesn't appear damaged, though I must admit that I was afraid a bit when his wing felt a bit gooey.

As I understand it, the thicker the wing is, the longer you must heat it so that it warms all the way through.

Cheers!

Taking a look at the WotC's pictures of GoL, it seems to me that this expansion has really improved in terms of sculpt and paint... some figures really rock! :) Treant, Fomorian, Fire and Frost Giant, Stone Golem, the two Drow and the Zombie resculpt are great...

I still haven't bought a single mini, but this expansion is tempting me, since at least I know I would get a big creature every pack. On the other hand, there are always a few awful minis which are regularly made common, and you'll always end up having a lot of them: Orc Brute, Astral Construct, City Guard... what are you going to do with all the City Guards???

More than the randomness itself, it's the rarity rates that still bugs the product. There are just too few commons in a set in my opinion, that you'll barely use in the RPG game.

2 cases, I got a Treant and a Huge Red. I wasn't impressed with the pictures of the treant, but now that I have him, WOW. There's just something about a mini with a claw that you can put other minis in.
Seriously... The treant's claw is perfect for holding a medium-sized mini.
Like this?

Heh. This past Sunday we picked up the last 3 packs at our LGS. We finally got the Huge Red Dragon. But the best part was that the 3 rares we ones we hadn't gotten yet - Dire Wolf, Half Giant Psychic Warrior, and the Fire Genasi Dervish. I am really liking GoL. We'll probably order one more case.

Happy Father's Day to me :p

My four packs arrived 30 minutes ago, and I'm amazed.

Could've done without the Cloud Giant. The Nightwalker's much more useful, and now that I plan on playing an Eberron campaign, the Warforged Titan comes in handy. And the last pack included a Huge Red Dragon - wow :)
So that's two out of four with huge rares. Not bad. Not bad at all.

There are still way more huges I'd like to have than I'm willing to buy packs, but I knew that already.

But what's more, here's a list of the rares:
Half-Giant Psychic Warrior (not too good), Minotaur (looks like a feral minotaur to me), Mordenkainen (wow - cool sculpt, and a very good paint job) and King Snurre (that's a menacing fire giant, if there ever was one).

On top of that, I received some of the uncommons I wanted (Gnoll Sergeant, Basilisk, Drow Rogue).

This seems to be my lucky day :)

This is fascinating as this was the EXACT same distribution of huges that I got in my 1 case...

Interesting.

The Tanarruk is teh suXX0r. Bleh, back to Harbinger quality.
I could find good use for quite a few City Guards. I always need mooks, especially mook humans. Finding a use for more than one Astral Construct will be much more... difficult.
