So I'm just wondering why a game full of "pretty women" would be considered unusual?

I was actually the one who posted that. Or at least one person who made a post like that.

I mentioned it in the "non-standard gamer" thread mostly because of the reaction I always get for my standard game. My regular crew is two girls and a guy. Whenever I am discussing my game with someone and that comes up, they immediatly stop me and ask what the deal is.

It has gotten way past annoying, I actually try to avoid the fact that I have girls in my game just to avoid the inane questions.

I am not quite sure what you are asking?

I think the vast majority of women date guys who are fun to be around, treat them like human beings and not objects, take care of themselves (ie. bathe, wash their clothes) and generally behave in an intelligent, pleasant manner. I think gamers might be drawn to other gamers because it's a good common thread to start with (but not always the case).

I think alot of people confuse "HOT" or attractive with clean, well kept and good hygeine. There are very few human beings (male or female) who are actually unattractive. Being well mannered and groomed go a long way.

I was in a pet store the other day and there was a guy with his girlfriend looking at the baby alligators. Being curious about the alligator I approached them. They were both physically attractive people who looked clean but when the guy started talking, every other word out of his mouth was a swear. Not because he was angry or anything, he just talked like that. It made him very unappealing and his general tone made him come across as a complete idiot. I felt bad for his girlfriend who presented herself in a classy manner. But I've seen women act like alligator man as well. Esp. women who act brainless because they think they will get attention this way. It's sad.

The guys I game with for the most part are attractive in that they are not like that. They are fun people to be around who I can actually have conversations with. Their physical appearance is not what makes or breaks them.

I think most people understand this and choose their friends this way, not by what they physically look like.

Well, let me look around my gaming table and tell you what I see. Female 1: She's got long blonde hair, perfect, translucent skin, and a slightly zaftig body, though she's very fit. (As in, she runs in marathons!) She's 30. Female 2: She's got medium brown, straight hair that's fashionably cut. She wears no makeup, but favors short, tight skirts and high heels. She's got an average body, neither skeletal nor plump. She's 27. Female 3: She has short black hair and is strikingly pretty, though not in a conventional sense. Wears makeup to work, but not otherwise. Is slender and fit, which is amazing since she has a 6 month old. She's 30. None of them are socially awkward.

The four guys around the table are of varying body types from skinny to slightly plump. They're al of average attractiveness, and range in age from 32 to 52. One of them is pretty shy, but none of them are what I would call socially awkward.

And then there's the DM, me. I'm 40 something. I suppose I'm of average attractiveness, though I'm heavier than I was 10 years ago. Certainly I wouldn't frighten children, nor win a beauty contest. I tend to dress casually outside of work, and professionally at work.

Sounds like a cross section of society to me.

The fact that geek is cool also helps. More attractive young women are dating geeks and being introduced to the game. Some stick with the game when the relationships end.
San Francisco, with it's ~30% gay population, is overcrowded with single women looking for anything male that moves and will pay attention to them...

Roughly 40 miles south of here the Silicon Valley begins, with a huge population of single wealthy men.

Natural combination you might say... but dating organizations are never able to get the two crowds to mix. I remember reading articles in the paper about conventions being held to invite all those women down to take a look at the rich geeks, and only a handful of them showing up.

Money only goes so far, and only overcomes so much.

As to the comment that most women date guys who are fun, treat them well, and take care of themselves... I'm glad it's like that where you live but all I hear from my women friends of of how their men treat them like crap... It's been the norm for me to hear of or witness men who beat them, disrespect them intellectually, control their bahavoir, cheat on them, cut them off from friends and family, abuse their children, force themselves on them, and so on. When I was younger I used to watch my friends repeatedly pass over nicer men for the losers because they had that air of being dangerous, seductive, and cool. Now I watch them deal with the tragedy that's their lives for making those choices when they were younger.

People not in messed up relationships are unsusual in my experience. I myself have been lucky.

...there are hardly any Girl Gamers in the UK, and the very few that do exist, normally play in the shadows of their boyfriends and are not really into it...

Um, I've met a lot of UK-based female gamers who are on these boards - two of them are in my current group. Around half are British, with a mix of other nationalities. I guess London may be a bit unusual though. :)

Maybe I should move there, then. At present, I'm stuck in the German military, which thanks to the draft doesn't exactly have a high number of women...

Men and women all over the world are attracted to whatever the locals consider foreign. It's exotic and 'interesting'. There's nothing better a person can do to up their odds than move to another country where their accent and or appearance will stand out.

This is kind of like reading one's star sign. There's bound to be something in there that fits, By the time I've read 20 different versions of female gamer stereotypes, I found the one that suits me.

Bookish intellect. These are probably the majority, I would guess. I would wager that these fall into the "don't wear any makeup" crowd as well. They tend to absorb novels, particularly fantasy novels.

Except for the make-up bit ... and the fact that I'm a girl gamer in the UK so according to another poster I don't exist. :D
The female gamers I know are all strong-minded and outrageous in some way or another, whether it be personality, clothes, ideas. This would be the only thread which ties them together other than that they’re all shapes, sizes, professions.

We have this town near where I live called Cary, NC. Most southerners call it "Centered Around Rich Yuppies/Yankees.

It is a huge mecca of techie geekdom and I constantly wonder how the women in that town ended up with the men. IME, combos like that just never happen in real life.

It's like a sign of the apocalypse!
