Give advice to improve my AC

I also don't find it out of line. And the thing with an AC whore build (as my friends and I call it) is that you still need some way of getting enemies to attack you. I've had lots of PCs that went for massive AC, often sacraficing damage and hp in the pursuit of it, and I can say from experience...nothing feels worse than pimping out your defenses to the max, only to be utterly ignored as the enemies seemingly all attack your allies instead of you. All dressed up with nowhere to go, as it were. :)

If the bad guys can't hit a PC in melee, then they'd turn to spellcasters with Area spells or ranged touch attacks.

My party has a PC like that - it's an elf fighter/paladin/champion of Corellon. Plus, he has a defending sword. He took Combat Expertise and Improved Combat Expertise, and with his PrC ability to wear heavier armor & keep his Dex bonus, his AC can legitimately get up to the low 60s now. Of course, he has lost +16 off of his BAB so can't really hit anybody with an AC:30 or higher... and, even if he does hit, he does not do nearly the damage the dwarf fighter or goliath barbarian can do.

He did take the "Goad" feat as well in order to try to get bad guys to attack him first.

don't forget the minor cloak of displacement, which grants you a 20% miss chance. alright, strictly speaking it's not AC, but it'll work anyway. stay away from the major cloak though, it's effect is not continuous like the minor one.

If you brought an AC 38 11th level PC into my game -- never mind trying to make it even higher -- I'd nuke you from orbit.
I get the feeling that if we asked for a listing of how he got to 38, we would find that he's stacking Mage Armor with armor (like he's wearing chain armor, and yet applies the Mage Armor bonus anyway, even though it doesn't stack).

He empowered Greater Mage armor?
Does he mean extend... you can't empower Mage armor or Greater Mage armor.
You can't add +50% the AC bonus.

That is one issue.

You can't empower Shield either to get +50% AC bonus.

So that is another issue.

So his real AC by following no houserules/mistakes is more like 34 I suspect.

Heck, he could be higher easily.
1) Greater Luminous Armor: +8 + Abjurant Bonus
2) Ring of Protect +3
3) Ioun Dusty Rose +1
4) Dex bonus +5
5) Base 10
6) Shield 4 + Abjurant bonus

= 31+ both abjurant bonuses.

Assuming Abjurant bomnus is +1/class level in theory he could have AC of 41.

In fact, he isn't as high as he could go. He low balled his AC.

Well by looking closely on the empower feat spell you cannot empower the mage armor (at first glance i read empower any numeric effects so i thought ok)...

So would it be a good choice if i did not focus on AC so much and try to improve DR ? let me also ask something... If i have a DR 5/ slashing and a wizard casts fireball on me , would the DR apply ? i think it will not but i want to be sure

Nope only weapons (Natural weapons are a type of weapon).
Spell like rays count as weapon for feats, but energy damage bypasses DR as well so wouldn't help against those.

DR is good against warriors and monsters though.
