gmail?

for the record, "archiving" isn't deletion. Its in there somewhere, it takes another step or two to get email to where gmail *might* *someday* delete it, but its likely still there, just where you cannot find it.

If you did just achive stuff, you can still search for it.

I also think that this might have something to do with Yahoo's intention of increasing their mail to 1 Gb here in April...
Google just want to be "the best" - nothing unusual in that in the business world :)

Which is kind of the point. They've abolished the need for users to be concerned with storage space.
Next, I just want some file storage...

I saw that increasing number on the main page, but I admit that I didn't pay much attention to it. I thought it was total users, or total space used, or something like that.

And I think gmail invites have to be a dime a dozen nowadays. I think everyone in the world could have one at this point if they wanted one.

Up to 2069MB now. Yay!

I only just got around to making labels for all my mail. Makes it really handy to organise now. Since so much of my email is mail-group oriented, or game focused, it makes all of it valuable to some degree or another. I wish I had some of my old mail archived like this, or more accurately, I wish I'd forwarded it all to Gmail before deleting them. :(

It's awfully nice not having to delete mail with pic attachments because of capacity limitations. Those are usually the mails I really want to save, and why clog up my machine if Gmail is willing to shoulder the load?

I don't really like gmail (at least for me, it's very slow), but I have to give google a lot of credit because they basically forced Yahoo to go from a measly 4-5 megabytes of storage to 250 megabytes to perhaps higher.

Hey Greylock, if I create some labels now, does it just work going forward, or will it label everything I've archived?

You can label archived emails. You can also put multiple labels on emails. I'm finding it very useful, now that I'm actually filling up the account a bit.
