GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Previews/Discussion

The Ego wall seems pretty similar to the source wall.

Initially it wasn't meant to be (the Infinity Wall was more like it), but all the pieces seemed to fall into place for the Ego Curtain.

Love the idea of adventurers hunting down a being only to find them already trapped within the barrier

Choron'zon, Demon of Dispersion might be bargained with to allow one to leave - if someone takes their place.

Edit: Unrelated, but i wondered if there are epic poisons. Perhaps powdered time that when inhaled rapidly aged you, or threw you into the past. To specify, i dont mean the super and ultra poison damage types.

I do have a bunch of new Conditions there could hypothetically be poisons that inflict those conditions.

Although each Super and Ultra energy type has its own interesting secondary quirk too.

So, the following may affect next week's Beta Release (in terms of content - the release is still happening) but it seems clear I'll need to split the body of work (that being God Rules: Player's Guide) into multiple books - simply by moving around various Chapters.

I think what has happened is that I've sort of diluted the Player Character material with a bunch of Games Master material as well as things that are Player-adjacent (Such as the Realm Building section) which is only tangentially relevant to actually 'playing' an immortal character.

I mean as I have said numerous times over the past few months the idea of a 500 or 600 page rulebook does not sit well with me. Its too intimidating, it goes against the core ethos of simplifying epic/immortal rules for 5e play.

So what will likely happen is:

1. I will move the Games Master elements: What is Epic, the Multiverse, God's Realm and Lair generation, Pantheon building, Immortal NPCs into a God Rules: Epic Campaigns book.
2. I will move the Epic Magic & Artifacts elements into a God Rules: Epic Magic book.

Of course Backers will get all these PDFs for free.

So that will leave the following for a God Rules: Epic Heroes book (not sure if I will change the "Player's Guide" to "Epic Heroes", to keep the 'Epic' theme...maybe).

Chapter 1 Beyond (40-50 pages): Rules for Going Beyond Level 20, New Epic Races, Legendary Ability Scores
Chapter 2 Immortality (40-50 pages): How to gain Immortality, what Immortality means, Mythic Form, Killing Gods, Divine Creation, etc.
Chapter 3 Divinity (40-50 pages): The Divinity Templates (Ranks 1-30)
Chapter 4 Purviews (70-80 pages): 25 Purviews (become the God of Magic, God of War etc.), 4 Petit Purviews (God of Beer etc.) 8 Grand Purviews (Lord of Eternity etc.)
Chapter 5 Powers (90-100 pages): Rules for keeping Boons balanced, Lots of Divine Boons to pick and chose from.

A bit of restructuring to do but this book will be 320 pages or so. I'll do some restructuring today so I will have a better idea of exact chapter page counts after that.

I think if I keep all the current chapters in one book it will lose focus on simply creating an immortal character. While I think my Godsrealm Generator is cool, I don't think it needs to be cluttering up the Immortality chapter, Likewise my Multiverse and accompanying Planes are a good read but they make more sense as part of an Epic Campaigns book.

This way I should have the Epic Heroes book fully completed by the end of January and the Epic Campaigns book by the end of February, Epic Magic book sometime in April (at some point I will be missing a few weeks due to these eye operations which will occur before the end of March).

So next weeks Beta release will likely be the trimmed version of this Epic Heroes book.

Any thoughts on this?

Pros:
1. Keeps the Player Material far more focused.
2. Means the Release Date moves up to January (for the Core Rules at least).
3. Far less intimidating rulebook.

Cons:
...I can't think of anything.

Okay so I just posted another update asking Backers 2 Questions:

Question 1: Do you want to see an 85% finished Beta version released next week or are you happy to wait 4-5 weeks (end of January) for a finished God Rules: Player's Guide?

Question 2: Do you want to see the Epic Spellcasting & Epic Spells included in the God Rules: Player's Guide or put into their own book? (just to note Backers get both for free). Adding this Chapter pushes the above release date back about 2 weeks (to mid-February).

I'll factor any replies from backers here (over the next 3 days) into the polling and go with the majority.

I delve into more reasoning in the Update but the above covers the basics.

I have a question why 3 books and not just 2 Books the official 5e Player Guide is 320 pages like God Rules 5e Player Guide, and the 5e Dungeon Master Guide is 320 Pages as well so for people having the two core rulebook being 320 pages books its normal. Also I have a question for Drivethrurpg will it come out at the same time on Drivethrurpg than the date on the kickstarter will it be later ?

Yes that might make sense Kevenpaladin! Although it looks more like a 400 Page God Rules: Player's Guide and 240 Page God Rules: Epic Campaigns book.

Well at this point the consensus on the Kickstarter Update poll says I should add the Epic Magic chapter to the Player's Guide.

So I think that the 400 page God Rules: Player's Guide will be finished sometime in February and made available to Backers only. When I get feedback from the pdf release I will make the changes (over the following few weeks) and then make the Physical version available on Drivethru. When the Physical version is available, both the pdf and Physical versions will be available to non-backers. But until I get the feedback from Backers on the pdf only they will get access to the pdf - that's only fair.

The rest of the material (assuming we lump it all together) will take about 6-7 weeks longer than the Player's Guide - may as well say 2 months longer because I will almost certainly be in for multiple eye surgeries during that time - which will at least impact progress by 1-2 weeks.
