GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Previews/Discussion

hey there buddy!

I had eye surgery on Thursday. All went well. Vision still blurry as I type this though, so taking a few days off until I can work at the computer again.

I suspect I will do eventually.

In the short term I will likely have my revised Solar in the God Rules: Epic Heroes book (formerly known as the Player's Guide). It's only CR 20 but a bit tougher than the official version(s). This is included because I have an epic spell called "Squad of Solars" Level 14 spell if I remember correctly.

At this juncture it's still too early to say if I will revisit all the epic angels I had in the Immortals Handbook: Epic Bestiary within the God Rules: Epic Bestiary. However, I will at least have a few. Was reading the Demon Rush manga, and loved one of their Angel designs. Perfect for a revised Elohim.

I do have plans for higher dimensional angels and fallen angels, but at the same time I don't necessarily want to get caught up doing an angel for each Divine Rank - even though I have the angels mapped out all the way up.

I just think, there are a lot more important (and arguably more interesting) monsters I have planned and I don't want to devote large parts of a Bestiary book to angels. But I am planning 120 monsters in the God Rules: Epic Bestiary, so you can expect a few in there such as the Elohim, Malakim, Kyriotates, etc. Even if I plan to change their names to be more flavourful (with the "real names" still being mentioned in the text somewhere).

I do have 4D Angels of Barzakh = Sinistrals, 5D Angels of Byss = Golgothans, 6D Angels of Tehom = Oneshim (Punishment Angels), 7D Angels of Muzaloth = Daynals, 8D Angels of Kuvachim = Mazzarot (Reflectivators) etc. Some of those are good, some evil, some complicated.I

So plenty of ideas for the angels, but exactly when and where they will show up is still up in the air.
Thanks a lot for the answer, really happy the surgery went well, I hope you recover well and fast. I can't wait for all of the materials for God Rules, really excited.

Thank you DungeonExplorer amigo!

Fingers crossed the recover goes well.

I made a slight mistake in my angelic listing, Evangels are the 8d Angels, not the Mazzarot.

Not sure there are 9d angels specifically yet. Though the Eventuators (servants of the Akasic Records - 9D robots effectively) might be the closest I have to to 9D "angels" at the moment.

In the process of some minor rebalancing today and I am wondering whether Fractions or Decimals are the most intuitive.

For instance an Energy Aura deals damage = 1/4 Hit Dice x Tier.

So is it clearer to have (for example) a Tier 5 Aura deals energy damage

Option A: "Energy damage = 1 1/4 your Hit Dice"

Option B: "Energy damage = your Hit Dice x1.25"

Personally, I am leaning to the latter, any thoughts on this? Are both clear or is one clearer than the other?

The second one is more straightforward mathematically speaking and would also imply less calculation since some creatures could have a lot of hit dice. With the 1+ 1/4th of your hit dice I would have to calculate what 1/4 th of my hit dice would correspond to; with the second option (x1.25) I only need to multiply my Hit dice times 1.25.

Thanks for the reply DungeonExplorer. That's what I thought.

Now in some cases I currently have "deals damage = 1/2 your Hit Dice" or "deals damage = 1/10th your Hit Dice". Though I think I will go back and change all those to Decimals just for consistency.

As noted a few minor rebalancing issues have raised this question - most notably the new Aura damage (1/4 Hit Dice x Tier*) or (Tier x Hit Dice x 0.25).

*Which when addressing the overall mechanic seems fine to explain it this way, but within specific Divine Boons there is no point forcing two calculations, when you can just use one.

ie. "= Tier 3 x Hit Dice x 0.25" is less intuitive than "= Hit Dice x0.75"

That said here is the sort of example that's wanting me to use a fraction:

Ice Divide [Passive]: When you move you can choose to have sheets of ice spring up behind you similar to a Wall of Ice spell. The dimensions of the wall = your Space x4 (height) and x1 (thickness). Those trying to break through the wall suffer Cold damage = ½ your Hit Dice in d6’s, CON save for ½. The effect lasts up to 10 minutes and does not require Concentration.

To me in the above context 1/2 makes more sense than "= x0.5 your Hit Dice in d6's".

However, in almost any case where its anything other than 1/2, the decimal seems the better option.

...or am I just going crazy.

I think It all depends on how much complicated Is the mathematical operation. For example 1+ 1/4 th Is more complicated than 1/2 . So the decimals are better when used to simplify operations but when you have to use simple math like when an effect says 1/2 of your Hit dice Is better to use fractions.
