D&D 4E Going/Not Going to 4E which edition did you start with?

Started with D&D basic (Keep on the Borderlands box), played AD&D, 2E with skills and powers, combat and tactics etc, 3E, 3.5E. Ive loved every edition so far.

I am NOT switching to 4E. This isnt my idea of what D&D should be, ymmv.

Started during the early nineties -- and bought 2nd edition first -- but played with the red box first.

Definitely going to 4th edition, because I'm a neophile in many ways. I like almost everything I've heard, and can easily ignore the (for me, small) fraction that I haven't liked.

Started w/the red Basic set 20 years ago, I've played every edition of D&D since as well as a bunch of other RPGs. I'll be playing 4E I'm pretty sure

Started with Basic... then 2nd edition... jumped onto the 3e bandwagon and have enjoyed the ride (and the writing gigs)... I'll be switching over to 4e (pre-ordered the giftset from Amazon already). I have always houseruled my campaigns to be a bit more fantastic opera (like the space opera of Star Wars)... and it seems 4e is going in this direction, which is exactly what I hoped for... since Basic ;)

Started with the 1st box set ( not the red one though...I believe it was pink, came with Keep on the boarder lands) and bought every DnD and ADnD suppliment until 2e. Durring 2e moved from my home city and fell out of contact with DnD. Became interested againt when 3e came out but havent played it with a gamming group (too much moving around the country to hook up with a gamming group) but played the only DnD outlet that was available to me- Neverwinters nights computer game. I learned many of 3e rules from that game. I wet ahead and bought the PH and DMG for that game. I generally enjoyed the change in rules. 4e .... not overly impressed by what has been presented and outright dislike some things (fluff changes) but will deffinatly buy the PH and possibly the DMG. Any gamming groups in phoenix open for a new player...hehe. (finally got settled)

I did the red (crayon in dice)/blue/cyan/black/gold boxed sets of DnD, self-made, then ADnD, Dragon Warriors, Runequest, MERPS, WFRP, 2E, self-made, 3.xE, Sovereign Stone (bleh), LotR RPG, new Warhammer, 3.5E, Arcana Unearthed, True20, Iron Heroes, 3.5E...(in about that order)...
And wanting to leap to 4E now.
I am such a tart, can't stay with one version for long ;)

Started with Modlvay and 1e, some 2e and rules encyclopedia, then 3.5e after it came out. I am switching to 4th because of the monster and DM'ing prep time. Plus they are apparently K.I.S.S.ing the new rules (keep it simple stupid). I like their design goals, their distillation of the generic D&D setting and other stuff I have read. I hate tieflings. Dragonborn I am out on, but am tending to see them in a positive light. Tieflings really blow, however. Easily house-ruled though.

I started gaming in 1988 and have run and/or played campaigns under BECMI, 1E, 2E, 3/3.5E, and Rules Cyclopedia with the individual campaigns spanning anywhere from 6 months to 4 years.

At this point I'm undecided on 4E, primarily because I'm not sure if it's going to look or feel like D&D. As my current campaign nears curtains (3/3.5E hybrid in FR with at least 6 months still to go) I'll be taking a good look across the board at gaming systems that are available for the next campaign. We'll either stick with some version of pre-4E D&D simply because of familiarity, or go with a new system which could be 4E or another system altogether.

Basic Red Box, which I started playing with in 1988. That lasted until 1991, when I started moving into 2nd Edition AD&D, which kept me interested until 1995 and I started playing Vampire: Dark Ages instead. After that, I flirted with AD&D 2nd off and on until 3e came out, then I came back for about 5 years, until the weight of 3e became too much to bear, and I stopped playing for the most part.
