Good map maker? Mapper?

For the life of me I can't find the search function on this forum.

What are the good map making tools for my world building, or the thread discussing them?

Goptta be a Community Supporter to have use of the Search function round these parts (but I'm not sure it is functioning at the moment anyway). Nevertheless, it should be easier to find what you need in the -

- Computer and Software forum, as there are a lot less threads in there. I'd bet someone asks that same question once a week or so, so look through the threads going back a month or two and you'll probably find all the input you need.

Welcome to the boards, btw! :)

Welcome to the boards, nethervoid!!!

I am working with Fractal Mapper's tutorials currently, and I find that it is easy to use. I also understand that Campaign Cartographer is another good software package for mapmaking.

Thanks. When I get a chance, I am going to spend an hour or two checking on the latest products and the status of all the links in the Maps and Campaign Resources thread. It has been useful for the Play by Post games, and can give people some good resources on fan sites.

As the guy who created the new City of Greyhawk maps for WotC/RPGA, I've often been asked "How do you make your maps?" To answer that question in a way I could never do in a forum post, I recently put up a new page on my website for those who are looking for mapmaking advice for their campaigns and/or websites, including general comments about the various mapping software available, common design mistakes made by software users, and illustrated advice on designing medieval cities. For "a Guide to RPG Mapmaking", go to http://melkot.com/mechanics/map-guide.html

You may also want to check out the rest of my site, as there are original maps scattered about the entire site (mostly in the "Greyhawk Locations" section), many of which can be used for non-Greyhawk campaigns as well. Go to my site map page at http://melkot.com/sitehistory.html to find out what other stuff is there.

Check out the ton of cool Edition-independent stuff on my website:
New Spells, Magic Items, Campaign Notoriety, Artifacts, Kyuss, secrets of the Twin Cataclysms, the Codex of the Infinite Planes, the Dreadwood, the cities of Melkot, Greyhawk and Irongate, a Grand Unified Theory for all of D&D, and much, much more!!

Wow, Maldin! That's good stuff. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks, Buttercup! Its been a labor of love... one page at a time. :-) I only wish I had the time to put up all the stuff I'd like to put up... or the permission to put up stuff I've done in the past that is now out-of-print yet still owned by you-know-who. :-(
But check back periodically. I'm always adding stuff.
