Goodman Games joins the high-priced market...

I'm really looking forward to this. I have almost all the Dungeon Crawl Classics. Goodman Games is great!

That being said, I'll probably have to save up for a bit before I can buy it. Hopefully it won't go out of print, or if it does, there will be a second printing.

Is it? So is Urth? Or Erde? Or Oerth? Sure :D.

Urth is an obvious one, it's pronounced the same. Erde? No. Oerth has earth in it, and I don't think Wizards or Gygax before them would be too happy if some company decided to call their world Oerth.

Aereth would be pronounced Air-eth or A-reth.

And if you pronounce it in a little bit sloppy way you are back to square one. (And Erde is just "Earth" in the same language that setting draws most of its names from).

Anyway, my point was that this Goodman Games product follows the good old fantasy tradition of naming the setting with a word that somehow resembles "earth" in its pronunciation or meaning. I don't mean this in a derogatory way, it's a simple observation. Try any combination of letters which somehow meets this criterion, and you will probably find a fantasy setting with this name. Even among the few setting proposals that I saw were a few names of this kind. How many proposals did WotC get? It was more than 10,000, if I remember correctly. The possibility that some of these letter combinations were similar is pretty high.

I suppose they checked Google for the name. There is no immediate match for a fantasy world name, which suggests that it's available.

...Aereth is in no way "Earth". It is not pronounced the same nor is it a word for Earth in a different language. Its only similarity is that it shares some of its letters.

But that is not even the point.

I have full intentions of publishing my CS but its been a bit slow due to the fact I am one lone person working on it and a lack of publisher. When I found Lulu, I saw a brighter future. Now it just looks a bit dimmer.

I in no way blame Goodman Games for coming up with it. Just kinda sad that they got to use the name first in publishing.

*Shrug*. Let's just state that our opinions differ in this regard.

Well, I can only wish you luck with your endeavour :).

The first thing I thought when I saw the name "Aereth" was "Oh, cool! They even did the old school thing and chose a name that is a variation of Earth."

I have a feeling I was not the only one.
