D&D 5E Goodman Games Next Crowdfunding Project: Terror of the Underdeep

Just because "that's the way it is" doesn't make it right. It is a bypass of the consumer protection laws to place the risk on the consumer instead of the company. Regardless if said company "always" delivers it does not change that fact.
No, but you not liking it also doesn't make it wrong. If it didn't work for their customers, the model wouldn't keep functionfor companies like Goodman Games.

This is what a preorder is for....
no, it is not, unless you preorder a year or so in advance and are ok with waiting for the product to still have to be created first.

Also, are you obliged to create it if you have two preorders or do you refund then. KS is a better approach to this

Also how do you think they and other companies did it before crowdfunding? Just blind luck?
Basically, yes, woth educated guesses. A lot of small to medium game companies have collapsed over the past 5 decades. Kickstarter takes a lot of thebriak out of limited run products, which means thst small companies can take risks on niche ideas. Ultimately, this benefits consumers, that's why we choose to back them.

When was the last crowdfunder that Goodman Games had that failed to fund? They know what sells. They do not need a crowdfunder to gauge interest.
of course they do, this is not a question of ‘is there enough interest to reach the 20k goal’ but ‘is there enough interest to print 1000 books or 3000’ and if you end up with 3000 where 1000 would last you for years, you do have a problem

You are correct. That does not mean I cannot express an opinion about not liking them and that they are anti-consumer.
you can do that, but you can also get pushback about your ‘they should only do preorders’ idea

Do I give up some rights compared to a preorder, sure, but maybe I consider that worthwhile to get something that otherwise might not have been created or got better because of the early support (stretch goals)

Another day, another update. This time, a 3e classic getting converted to 5e!

Last week, we discussed bringing the vast library of Goodman Games classic adventures to the 5E rules set. Launching as an add-on with Terror From the UnderDeep will be the official 5E adaptation of Dungeon Crawl Classics #1: Idylls of the Rat King!

The adventure that launched the Dungeon Crawl Classics adventure line - first published under the 3.0 rules, "two editions ago" - will at long last be available for 5E play!

The original 3.0 edition of Idylls of the Rat King was reprinted multiple times and continues to be recognized to this day for its seminal role in launching the DCC line. Now 5E players can finally experience this iconic dungeon crawl.

Coming soon as part of Terror From the UnderDeep:

Goblin bandits are once again attacking the caravans laden with silver ore, killing innocent miners and stealing cargo. The goblins have taken up residence in an abandoned mine northwest of Silverton. Someone must get rid of them!

But this is no ordinary abandoned mine. It was deliberately barricaded generations ago when the Gannu family, founders of Silverton, discovered an unspeakable evil on its lowest levels.

And these are no ordinary goblins, for the curse of the Gannu family courses through their veins...

This classic adventure has been converted to the fifth edition and is suitable for level 1 characters. It features four dungeon levels, 60 detailed encounter areas, four player handouts and a detailed village.
