Got my PHB3

1) What's one class - flavor wise - that jumped out as you as interesting

Runepriest. I've always liked the ideas of runes ever since I say them used in PFRPG (that's Palladium Fantasy) and their limited use with dwarves back in 2e.

2) What's one race - flavor wise - that jumped out as you as interesting (be it for reasons of personal play style, background fluff, cinematic inspiration, stat mechanics, etc)?

Shard Mind because they are living constructs and wierd. I like they they have no gender and don't even know how new members of their own race come into being.

3) At first glance (unless you had time to read through them), would you say the breakdown on feats is more useful to the new classes/races, or is there -healthy- mix of new feats useful to any PC (even those from previous PHBs). For comparison, PHB2 had about 15 feats that didn't have PHB2 races or classes as prereqs.

of the Paragon feats for any class 10 out of 28 don't have any requirements, only one has requirements not from this book. The others all build off of options of the PHB3. That seems to be what we see in most new books that most of the feats are meant for options presented in the book.

Hey Crothian, I asked a couple of questions in the other thread that went unanswered. Would you mind filling me in please? :)

Skill power feat: requires 2nd level

Minotaur feats one gives them a free basic melee attack when bloodied, one gives them bonus to hit and damage when the use Ferocity (race power that allows them a basic melee attack when they go to 0 or lower hp), one that push target of their goring charge (another racial power),another that gives them a second charge after critical with the first.. That's all their heroic ones.

These are first impressions.

I have a two questions:

1. It seemed strange to me when I first heard that the monk was going to have the psionic power source. Now you see it all in context, do you think it fits well?

Monks always had the ki training and the psionic label just seems to be replacing that.

2. How do the hybrid classes look?

A little odd at first. As I read through it I was confused because I didn't realize what they had done. It's an interesting idea and I think it might be fun to try some combos (my first thought was the monk/fighter but use the one weapon fighter option from Martial power 2. No idea if this could work well, just the first character that sprang to my mind.)

One has to have even number of powers from each class so I think that might cause issues as people might want to try to favor one class.

Is there still that feat that allowed the goring charge as an OA at will?

From a DM point of view I was underwelmed by the PHBII. I scanned through it and didn't find a lot to grab me.

Do you think it is worth getting just for the fluff?

Funny, I found PHBII to be an absolute necessity add-on to the PHBII Yes, some parts were iffy, but I thought 4E needed the PHBII, but not sure about PHBIII

I've actually had trouble getting my players to use it, they seem quite happy with the options in the PHBI. Although I've managed to get a Deva Sorcerer on the team. We'll see over time what they think of it.

I've recently introduced them to the Character Creator and they are hooked now.

I find the PHB2 essential, and I'm tremendously excited about the PHB3. Can't wait.

Oddly, my real day of happiness will be when the content hits the character builder.

A bit more about the shardminds (or crystalfolk, as I seem to want to call them), if you please. Do they come in different colors (or change color, like a mood ring)? What are they like, culturally? Racial personality traits?
