[GR PR] Ultramodern Firearms D20

Erm... Nice history and background of the product, but what exactly can we expect (as i'm not familiar with the original product)? Are the fire arms described near future (cyberpunk), science fiction, or real? What kind of game system can we expect (Duh! D20, but is it just a small stat line, like a crossbow, or are the rules rewritten to make a new system)? Is it compatible with D20 modern?

More info!!! ;-)

Ultramodern Firearms was originally made for the Millennium's End game system, though it gave so much information concerning actual modern day firearms that it could have been used as a basis for most other modern games. Basically, if you want to use an H&K MP-5SD6, it has the stats for that gun, plus background information concerning the gun as well. Considering that Charles Ryan (who wrote the book) is on the design team for D20 Modern, I am sure that it will use the rules for that system, when they become available.

Charles, should you read this, I for one still lament the loss of Chameleon Eclectic. Millennium's End is one of the best games that I am still running my friends through. Thank you for delivering such a great system. I look forward to see what you and the rest of the design team come up with on D20 Modern, and also to see what the guys at Green Ronin can add to the mix.

Ultramodern Firearms covers real-world modern pistols, SMGs, ARs, rifles, shotguns, and MGs, tending toward those used by military, law enforcement, and special operations forces. As the names suggests, the focus is on truly modern weapons, so you won't find many WWII-era weapons, for example (except those, like, say, the Browning .50-cal, that are still in common use today).

What you will find are interesting, readable descriptions that make the weapons accessible even to non-gun-nuts, complete real-world and game stats, and clear, high-quality illustrations. You'll also find some nifty features that make the book easy to use, like a features index (a list of all the weapons in the book, indexed according to common and desireable features) and a weapons in use table (listing dozens of world military and police forces along with the weapons they use).

The stats are completely compatible with d20 Modern.

Boss: thanks for the great comments! I hope you'll enjoy d20 Modern just as much (and the new UF as well)!

Hope that helps!

If you guys can add the VP/WP health system as a variant in the d20 Modern rulebook, I'll enjoy it more, Mr. Ryan. :D

The vitality point system will not be covered in d20 Modern, even as a variant. There will be VP/WP stats in Ultramodern Firearms, however.

I just got my hands on the UF from 1993, it's superb! It reads a way as a gun catalog for the uninitiated, which is a very good thing (not all gamers are gun nuts, i am though ;-) The drawings are extremely well done, are you folks going to use the same illustrations and let the same artist do the new ones (say yes please!)?

The book is almost ten years old, thus i think it will need a massive update (but i would hate to see entries removed), what can we expect? Like i said above i really like the fact that it reads like a gun catalog, especially that the game statistics and mechanics are sperate from the gun entries themselves, will the new version continue this trend?

The 1993 UF is 176 pages long and with the new entries it would become a lot bigger. Now i do find that that the old version had an extreme amount of white space, strangely enough i din't really find it that annoying (i often do). But by reformatting you could paste a lot more text into the same amount of space. If it's 176+ pages, would you consider making it a hardcover? Similar to the HCs by Fantasy Flight Games? I personally think it's very classy and think would sell the book better. I also suspect that if you keep the rules seperate in the back (and they don't take up half the book), the art perfect, it probably would sell to a non D20 crowd as well (SR, cyberpunk, CoC, etc.).

I'm really excited about this release (because it's so damn usefull in any modern+ game)!
