[GR PR] Ultramodern Firearms D20

Ultramodern Firearms has to be my most used book for any modern setting. Although I've never even play Milleniums end, it was simple to convert to Cyberpunk, Call of Cthulhu and pretty much any other modern setting.

The level of information and detailed drawing of the weapons was enough to keep any gun-nut happy, and is probably only bettered by JANE's for real-world info all in one place.

Thanks for the great comments! I believe the new version is even better.

I hope they add in things like OICW that have appeared since the original book.

There are a whole bunch of new weapons covered, including the OICW. (At two pages in length, the OICW beats out the HK G11 for the longest entry in the book. Of course, it's really two weapons (the rifle and the burst weapon), one of which is defining a whole new category. . . .)

I'll be looking forward to this although I personally think D20 is not well suited to modern day 'realistic' games which the old Ultramodem Firearms was ideally suited for. I'll probably check it out to see whats changed and convert it to Uni-System.

I hope you'll give d20 Modern a try. I think it's a really good game, and fits the modern genre quite well. (I've been running a campaign myself since February.) I like to think that I have pretty good credentials when it comes to modern RPG design.

The d20 version will be 160 pages, hardcover. Despite the page count drop, it'll contain a fair number of new weapons (and none of the old ones are being dropped). The only thing that is being dropped is the chapter on sighting devices and night-vision equipment, mainly because the technology changes so quickly that whatever we print will be out of date very soon (the 1993 edition material was almost completely out of date).

The OICW is covered, but of course it's still a prototype so the info is tentative.

There's a lot more game mechanics than the original edition, including special rules for specific weapons where called for.

I think you'll like it!

Charles,

I look forward to this a great deal! As a former Marine, I have to ask about my 2 favorite weapons;

Will the SAW be listed?

Will the Dragnuv sniper rifle be present? If so, which incarnation, the original 7 shot mag/bolt load or the newer 15 mag auto-load (or both preferably)?

Green Ronin - Kudos for the coup on this, you guys have some remarkable product and it gets better all the time! (btw - I still owe you 3 reviews, coming soon! :D)

Allow me to say OH HECK (For Eric's Grandma of course) YEAH!!!! I think this would be a fabulous idea!

Thanks! Don't go holding your breath at this point, though. It's just an idea I'm kicking around, and if I pursued it you probably wouldn't see it on the market for a year or so.

In the mean time, you'll get a taste of what a Millennium's End/d20 crossover might look at in Ultramodern Firearms. The d20 system has so much more rules depth than most other RPGs (including Millennium's End), so you see a lot of rules and guidelines that were just color information in the original Ultramodern Firearms.
