Also, my addition... if your players aren't interested, it's not that the players are total jerks, or that the DM needs more experience... usually it's a bit of both. Maybe find a DM and go play in a game yourself?

If your players can't stay focus, use thumbs screws and the Book of the Righteous to beat them into submission. It works for me.
