Grappling damage and SA

Just a random thought.

I know you can use light or natural weapons while grappling. I also know that while grappling both parties are flat footed (I believe). would this mean that if a fighter was grappling a rogue, it could SA since the fighter was FFed? If not, is there some form of feat or skill usage that can allow it?

I've also never seen a number crunch for some damage in a grapple by a rogue. Seen plenty of monk stuff, but what can the rogue do?

Nope, you are not flat-footed while grappling. You also do not lose your Dex bonus to AC against anyone in the same grapple with you.

Grappling Consequences

While you’re grappling, your ability to attack others and defend yourself is limited.

No Threatened Squares: You don’t threaten any squares while grappling.

No Dexterity Bonus: You lose your Dexterity bonus to AC (if you have one) against opponents you aren’t grappling. (You can still use it against opponents you are grappling.)

No Movement: You can’t move normally while grappling. You may, however, make an opposed grapple check (see below) to move while grappling.

I think that answers the questions about SA while grappling.

Greetings

There could be a feat that denies your opponent their Dexterity bonus to AC while you're grappling them. It's rare that you have rogues who are expert grapplers, so it might even be somewhat balanced.

Why bother? Just have your monk or tank grapple and your rogue can full attack.

The entire rogue archetype is built around dealing big damage while someone else entertains your target. I don't see the point of making new feats just to violate that.

We play that a rogue can't use precision damage, ie. sneak attack, against a target that he has a miss chance against. And when two (or more) creatures are grappling, there is a miss chance.

I think the RAW say the miss chance against grapplers is for ranged attacks, but we couldn't find any reason not to apply the same miss chance to melee combat as well.

Right. No chance to hit the wrong target with a melee attack, which is why (as written) rogues love it when their targets are grappled.

I think id go with a miss chance for melee too....grapplers (as far as ive seen irl) seem to twist around quite a bit, giving a good chance for missing....you start swinging, someone moves, and you hit your friend....

Of course, grappling is also holding one guy so others can hit him - the classic bullying group trick. No miss chance there.
