Greater Magic Weapon 3.5

First Post
If anybody else posted about this sorry but did anybody notice in the Dragon Mag # 306 3.5 update it has a little blurb about Greater magic Weapon...

Says the current version(which may or not be the one that makes it into the revision) you get +1 per 4 levels, instead of +1 per 3 levels like now.

Nice to know, buy my beaf has always been more with the duration. So ok now +5 happens at level 20 instead of 15, and at 12th your at +2 instead of +4, it weakns it a bit, but ti still goes for all day if they didn't alter the duration.

Speaking of greater magic weapon, is the enhancement bonus also applicable to natural weapons?

I know greater magic fang should be used for this but my problem is this. I have a dragon NPC cleric of Bahamut and it uses mostly its natural weapons when fighting. Being a cleric, it doesn't have access to greater magic fang, so it cannot use its deity's favored weapon and enhance it. If greater magic weapon doesn't do the job, I'll just include gretaer magic fang in its spell list. What do you think?

Another question. Does greater magic weapon (fang) applies to a weapon type or only one weapon, i.e. does the dragon have to cast greater magic weapon (Fang) two times, one for each claw, or only once.

G.G. out

1. One of the Sage Advice columns specified that the Greater Magic xxx spells affect only one weapon (or group of ammo). This means that one casting affects only one sword, one claw, one unarmed fist, etc.

2. Greater Magic Weapon (and Magic Weapon) specifically do NOT affect natural weapons. Magic Fang spells only affect natural attacks.

3. Magic Fang is strictly druid/ranger - it's not on any of the core domain spell lists. It might be on a domain list from FRCS or a splat book - I haven't checked.

As far as the possible changes, lowering the bonus is greatly needed, but I'd also like to see them combine the spell effects into one spell, which can affect either a natural or manufactured weapon. There are too many situations (monks, non-human races for a pc, etc.) where magic fang is needed, but not available. A 1st-level Magic Weapon, and a 4th-level Greater Magic Weapon which affected either type would be an improvement, IMHO.

So do you guys think GMW is going to be even worth using with the beefing up of DR and the lowered benefit?

Actually, I think it will become a useful spell, but nowhere near the must have spell it currently is. I heartily approve.

After all if a feat/spell/class/weapon is chosen by everyone that can take it, it is by definition "broken."

Uhm...Dragons have DR...so it automatically breeches the DR it has on other things. Besides, Bahamut doesn't have a favored weapon.
