Green Dragon Tactics against a Deepwood Sniper

Pretty much. Two natural 20's to hit and a natural 1 on his Fort save. It really doesn't get any easier than that.

But then you'd have to find some other meaningless thing on a messageboard to be bitter about.

Bitter? Me? I'm not bitter, I think your posts are mildly amusing nonsense. Sucks to be you, in a way... You either:

a) Get your character killed doing something so pointlessly stupid it's not even marginally heroic, or

b) "Win", but if you brag about it (Which this thread is a prelude to - you're not really looking for information, you just want to impress people with the idea that your ubertwink character will be fighting a dragon.), everyone will know you're so full of it it's coming out of your ears...

Good hunting... Make sure you bring your Rod of Winning and a loaded d20...

Use Dex poison instead of Con. If you drop its 10 Dex to zero - 17 fewer points to remove than Con - you can coup de grace to your heart's content.

Use a suicidal guy to deliver dust of sneezing and choking. Even on a successful save, it stuns for 5d4 rounds. Attacking without opposition is always nice.

Maybe even throw a bag of holding into a portable hole when the dragon is right on top of you, and pray it doesn't have planeshift.

The best chance you have is having an elf charge up to the dragon with a full powered Staff of Power, and snapping it right as he gets close enough to the dragon. That should hit him for a good 400 points of damage (200 if he saves).

Then proceed to shoot him.

So, a dragon with 500 HPs is going to take a save for massive damage on just 50+? Shouldn't it be a larger sum, considering A) the amoutn of HPs he has and B) The SIZE of him?

No matter what kind of poison he uses, it will only work if the DM gives him a real pat on the head and invents a new kind of super-poison that has a high enough DC to effect a dragon. That's why I called poison a cheap shot then and I call it a cheap shot now. It's still Deus Ex Machina.

Super high DC poison, arrow of green dragon slaying, same thing.

I'll agree with the guy above, Dust of Sneezing and Choking. It has the least chance of getting you killed

What book is that from?

EDIT: Never mind. Found it in the DMG....

To do any damage to this brute at all, you'll need a lot of stuff. The Dust is a nice idea. Tie a bag of it to an arrow and make a touch attack to hit it at range with your first arrow of the round. (or use an egg shell arrow) Repeat every 6 rounds as needed if you have enough dust.

You siad they have some resources, so ask the elves for:

A Mighty Oathbow (+4 or higher if possible)
Bracers of Archery
2 x GMW at +5
Empowered Cat's Grace (multiple empowers if you allow that)
Boots of Speed
A spell storing item like a VPP Ioun Stone
A Tenser's Transformation spell in said item
Hunter's Mercy Wand (If the spell is allowed) and a True Strike wand. Since the confirm roll is an attack roll you should be able to use the true strike bonus. (I think you can use these together if hasted...double check the spell descrips to be sure)
Something that can cast Etherial Jaunt for you to either move in after an alpha strike and ambush again (to counter a wind wall or other defensive measures), or to escape if it reacts too quickly. Maybe that broken Ethereal enhancement from DotF. With that, you could maneuver freely after your initial attack. The Dragon couldn't really do much to you after that unless it had Etherealness on it's spell list, but there's still no way to keep him from leaving.

With the above you'll still die screaming if you stay past the first round, but at least you'll be able to do some decent damage if you do.

Heh. I like the way you think. I've actually used a tactic like this before to strike an enemy with a bag of harmful dust. Instead of tying the bag to the arrow, he untied the bag and stuck the arrow head inside the bag just far enough so that it didn't puncture the bottom then tied it tightly shut around the arrow's shaft. Poof. As soon as the guys on this thread mentioned dust I immediately thought of that.
