They had a movie called Greenland with Gerard Butler?

Now they have a sequel?

I never even heard of the first one! How did that actually do? I imagine it must have made some sort of profit if they made a second one.

I never heard of the first one though before today.

it was good imo but it came out during the pandemic, so iirc it went straight to streaming

so i'm glad I wasn't able to waste money on a movie ticket for this. It really does override the happyish ending of the first movie along with ignoring the main reason why they were denied, the kid being diabetic. Five years of a time skip would realistically mean unless they have insulin production, that kid isn't going to live that long.

Watched it when it recently showed up on HBO. Somewhat of a disconnect from the first movie. End of first movie was the Greenland base opening up and seeing a rather clear landscape plus radio signals from all over. 2nd has the base in the middle of a supply crisis years later. Then becomes a rather standard 'travel through the apocalypse' story. The ending really kind of ruined it. Hard to believe there would be that level of fighting that many years after almost all supplies were destroyed in Europe after impact. Or that the fighting groups would somehow leave the kumbaya crater floor alone as refugees keep traveling though the fighting.

they did the whole "well we thought it was over but it really wasn't" during a brief recap of the first movie as part of the 5 year time skip, it also does the whole "gas is still good" issue. I haven't finished it yet, I keep getting distracted by other things. But I do know that butler's character doesn't live due to looking the movie up on tvtropes lol.

I saw that but it is still a disconnect from the upbeat first movie ending. The fuel still being good would be expected for a US military site. Most US stuff runs on a variant of JetA(even land vehicles) to simplify logistics. Jet A is basically kerosene and can have a shelf life of decades if stored well. While the fuel in the lifeboats(probably diesel) would likely also be good, don't buy that the batteries would still be charged after several years of seasonal temp swings and not being used.

Decent idea to do a 2nd movie but I think this try went a bit weird.

I was thinking more of the guy's van and the other generators, there's a few other things i could nitpick but that's only due to having actual knowledge abit limited as mentioned in my other post.

But yeah they went hard on the happy ending override for little gain, when they could have gone in other directions.
