D&D 5E Greg Tito Gives First Look at Eberron: Rising from the Last War

WotC's Greg Tito in this week's D&D News had some information to drop on the upcoming book, Eberron: Rising from the Last War, including a wallpaper background for his show, and a first look at the back of the special edition cover.

WotC's Greg Tito in this week's D&D News had some information to drop on the upcoming book, Eberron: Rising from the Last War, including a wallpaper background for his show, and a first look at the back of the special edition cover.
  • The artificer in this book has 3 subclasses (unnamed): WotC's Jeremy Crawford had said previously that the alchemist was the low scorer of the last batch, so that might not have made the cut.
  • Group patrons excite Greg Tito, a traditional quest giver who adopts the adventuring party is the background, but now with weighty mechanics: used the example of being a team working for a University.
  • Eberron creator Keith Baker contributed a lot to this book, Jeremy Crawford was the lead, James Wyatt also worked on the book, as did a number of freelancers.
  • There is a chapter that is a Gazeeter of Sharn.

Jeremy Crawford added some more detail -- "Eberron: Rising from the Last War" has nearly a hundred pages on building adventures in Khorvaire, the continent scarred by the Last War. That chapter includes a 1st-level adventure in the towering city of Sharn."

This is a pretty bad argument. In those earlier editions, you were buying material for that game in that edition. The mechanics I bought, the lore I bought, and the information I bought is all being reprinted in a better book, or was given out for free in an Unearthed Arcana. Please try not to make false equivalencies in the future!
If you had never bought an Eberron book previously... then Wayfinders was absolutely not a waste of money because you've gotten a year's worth of use out of it already. A year's worth of gaming you wouldn't have had if you didn't. You'll also get several more years of use out of it too because nothing in it is going to be invalidated by whatever appears in Rising. Almost none of the lore and information in Eberron changes from edition to edition, book to book, and thus you'll get nothing new in Rising you don't already have.

In fact, if your game has been going great already, there's absolutely no reason to waste your money in buying Rising because Wayfinders has already done its job. Even if the game mechanics change slightly, if you are playing your game satisfactorly with the mechanics you already have, then who cares? (Not to mention the fact that I seem to recall it was said when Wayfinders was produced that it would get updated with any updated mechanics that eventually made it in another book, so you might very well get the new mechanics anyway even without buying Rising.)

So if Wayfinders was your first Eberron book, I wouldn't say you've wasted your money at all.

The Wayfnder's Guide to Eberron is 172 pages (it wil lbe longer once they add the Artificer final rules).

They released three Unearthed Arcana articles for material from the book:

Magic Items of Eberron - 4 pages

Races of Eberron - 9 pages

Dragonmarks - 9 pages

so, 22 pages is half of 172 pages...?

Checking the word count, the documents from Unearthed Arcana have about 12,800 words, while the Wayfinders Guide apparently has ~54,000 words, compared to ~220,000 in Rising from the Last War.

An I the only one who really liked the alchemist?
<shrug> The WotC artificer isn't nearly as good as the Kibblestasty artificer, so I won't be using it, unless a player specifically requests it or I'm stuck with a DM doing <shudder> official only.
