GrimJack and Alien Legion RPGs

I'd really love to get my hands on the licenses to produce a GrimJack and an Alien Legion RPG. I've even got the number for Tim Truman's agent around here and I suspect the GrimJack license wouldn't be too difficult to get.

Unfortunately, there's just no way in hell sales would justify the cost (both time and money) to license and produce these games.

Damn worthless distribution network.

You know, that would probably be a great way to deal with a licensed property. Put together a sponsor group that donates all of the funds necessary to produce the licensed product and then provide those that donated with access to playtest and then a free copy of the final product.

I think you're right. I'd love to see someone try it.

I just heard about it yesterday and i'm already loving the idea of the Ransom Model, which i think has enormous potential. If handled well i think the Ransom Model could work as well with a Name Brand product as it could with a Name Brand author, probably better. I mean heck, all the owner of the license has to do is sit back and not worry until the price is met. Wow. What a selling point!

Of course, you'd end up with a lot of backseat driving, but would it really be more than you'd get from producing a Licensed game in the normal fashion anyway?

Like Phil, I would so love to get my hands on the license for an Alien Legion RPG. I loved that comic dearly, especially with the coolness of the characters. Hmmm, have to see if a friend of mine can hook me up with Chuck Dixon...

GrimJack and American Flagg!
The problem with wide distribution is that even in their day these were nich books. Limiting your potential audience to old eccentrics. This is the first I've heard of the Ransom Model, but I like it.

So who am I writing my check to? :p

If Alien Legion got the Starship Troopers (the recent game, that is) treatment, OH MOMMA!

Actually, you need to talk to Carl Potts. He created and owns Alien Legion.

If I had about $5,000 to throw at a project like this I figure it would probably take 2-3 days before I knew if Carl Potts was interested in licensing the property and if he was how much he would want for it.

Its the chicken or the egg. To get people to donate, you'd half to have Carl Potts on board. To get Carl involved, you'd probably need the donations! If might be worth it to run it by him to see how he likes the Ransom Model. He might think its a great idea and work a deal with you.

What ever happened to labors of love? Not everything absolutely needs to be done for a profit when you're a publisher.

For example, my boss is a longtime fan of GI Joe. Some of the original toys are kicking around the office amidst the sea of rubbery plastic Gundam "Mobile Suit in Action" robot action figures. Right now, amidst everything else, he's slowly giving the GI Joe vehicles treatment similar to his Big Bang Ricochet line. It's pretty cool too, as he's examining things from a historical perspective to try and uncover the real world roots of each toy, such as the MOBAT being based on the MBT-70 and the VAMP being based on the Cheetah, a competitor in the original HMMWV selection competition. But we all know trying to license such a thing isn't feasible. But when things are ready, he'll start adding it to the ARP website as a net.book freebie, just as he has done with a bunch of Fuzion and Cyberpunk 2020 material he has done over the years.

But yeah, Alien Legion would make for a great D20 Future game supplement. I'd buy it almost as quick as I'd buy a Star Frontiers supplement for D20 Future.
