Grossman really sucks

I disagree on the MVP. The reason the running game worked was because the Bears played their safeties 15+ yards off the line. They were scared of Manning beating them deep. That left the short passes and runs underneath open all day. Turns out, Manning's presence and performance was worth the MVP.

As for Rex: Yes, he played terribly but he's young and still learning and growing. For a young QB comparison, Big Ben played badly last year, too.

Yes, but Big Ben already took his team to the promised land, something that even Grossman himself (while not overtly) has acknowledged he may or may not be ready for, stating that he does take games off, or does not prepare himself for properly.

Despite the fact that he was 20 - 28 last night, I kept asking when Smith was going to bring in Griese.

The Bears this season, at times, won DESPITE Grossman, and he did nothing last night. 2 Fumbles on a direct snap is inexcusable, especially for an NFL calibre QB.

And I too thought that Addai and Rhodes should have been co-MVP, because in the 2nd half, it was the running game that carried the Colts, not the passing game. Manning opened them up in the 1st half, and the running game put them away in the 2nd.

I was kinda hoping for Griese, too. The Super Bowl is not when you have a young QB stick in there to see what losing feels like. The Super Bowl is when you maximize your chances of winning. Whether he has the potential to be good or not, Grossman was rattled out there.

I didn't mind Manning, for the reasons other people have said -- he didn't do the runs, but he made those runs possible. If the Bears hadn't given the Colts so much room to run while trying to cover the pass plays, I think they'd have stuffed the run pretty handily. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, though. I don't know.

Rhodes or Addai. Or even both.

TOTALLY agree!
They gave it to Manning as kind of a "lifetime acheivement award" thing, in my opinion.

As far as Grossman is concerned, yeah he was pretty bad, but he's still young and he only has what 20 some odd starts under his belt? He could still be a good QB, although I'm betting not one of the greatest.

I totally disagree with the "he's young" argument. It's not only the passes he makes, it's his decision-making to throw those passes. And he's been doing it all season. He constantly lobs the ball into double-coverage. Maybe he has a bad quarterback coach or something, I don't know.

Yeah, that's because he's not a good QB either.

The Bears oughta hire Norv Turner as QB coach. Lousy head coach, but he's pretty damn good with young(ish) QBs.

Grossman's on the bubble. Injuries in the past years stunted his development, I think. After this year, though, there is no excuse. Give him some stiff competition in training camp and see if he learned anything from this season.

Ben had a bad game in the Super Bowl, but was a very good QB for most of the year. Rex had a bad game in the Super Bowl, and was a bad QB (bottom third of the NFL by traditional measures) for most of the year. Ben wasn't very good this year, but a lot of that looked like it was due to rushing back from injury.

somewhere in there though he was still one of only two starting quarterbacks for a super bowl team this year.
