Guess What?! NC Game Day VIII is September 10th!

I just wanted to add that I also had a wonderful time this past Saturday. I GMed for a fabulous group of people in the morning, and had a blast playing in the Sky Galleons game in the afternoon.

While it was unfortunate that Rel's Stupor Heroes game was cancelled, it gave me the opportunity to DM for a full-table. The players had me in stitches the whole time--between Rel's portrayal of the annoyingly cheerful female monk to Belen's overly-greedy rogue to Jon Potter's gruff and grumbling dwarf. Every player was great!! And the looks on their faces when I pulled out my Teddy Bear "miniature"--it was classic!

It was also fun reprising my role as Lizzie for Rel's Sky Galleons game. (I hadn't played Sky Galleons since my very first Game Day!) Although, I must say, I did feel sorry for the poor Martians... after all, it's not easy being green!

I know I just posted, but this is in response to the questions about the Game Day website. Here is my two cents:

I agree that the term "Walk-in" is confusing. Using the term "Open" would be more obvious. However, there is no one term that is going to make sense for everyone. Therefore, whatever you decide, please create a "list of terms" page explaining the various terms being used and their definitions. This way, everyone will understand what you mean.

Secondly, I think it would be nice to keep an archive of the Events run in past Game Days. This way, folks who are new to Game Day can look and see which DMs have run certain systems/games in the past. Also, it would be a great way for DMs to keep track of which players have participated in their games in the past. I don't know how feasible this would be, but it's something to consider.

I would also like to add my support to the idea of attaching character descriptions to the events and allowing players to select characters before the game.

Finally, it would be nice to have a "Notes" field on the Event submission form where you can add additional information about the game. An example of something in a note field may be "Game starts promptly at 9:00am" or "Questions? Comments? Contact me at xxx@xxx.com".

Just my 2 cents...

No quotes yet?

"Michael! Watch out!"

Said in Clueless' Shadowrun game by the force 6 city spirit that we had... as our car... taking the form of Kitt from Knight Rider. Blowing around Seattle in 2054 in this car being shot at by Troll go-gangers, german hired killers, mexican blood mages, essence vampires, and another shadowrun team.

Very, very awesome game.

We had much better quotes, some of which are classics, but I don't have my notes in front of me.

I think that your "Open" designation would be best to replace the current "walk-in."

Seconded.

Minor suggestions on creating an event:

--On duration, put something like "Duration (in hours):" to clarify
--For maturity flags, it might clarify for some people to spell it out "Fictional Violence, Violence, Language, etc." instead of "FV, V, L," etc. Plus, for some reason, the "Maturity Guide" link gives me a 404.
--Don't know if you can do anything about this, but in both IE and Firefox hovering over a title gives the help boxes, but THEY DON'T GO AWAY if you move off of them, meaning the last thing you hovered over stays on the screen and blocks the view. Minor, but nuisance-level.

Thanks for bringing these to my attention. I've made the changes you guys have suggested (Walk-In -> Open, Duration (in hours), Maturity Flags more verbose, and cleaned up the help prompts).

As for the characters for events, how much/how little info do you want here? I imagine you'd want fields like:

'Name'
'Sex'
'Race'
'Attributes' ?
'Skills' ?
'Role Play Notes'
'History'

Name & Race would be text entry. Sex would be a drop down choice of Male/Female/Ambigous/Unspecified(?). Attributes/Skills/Role Play Notes & History would likely just be text-areas you could type into. What do you guys think?

Alternatively I can make it just 'Name' and 'Info' (a big text area that you can put whatever you want in).

I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to represent all this to you, but we'll see :)

I'll work on adding this. I've already added it to the help hover when you're editing/adding an event.

Sadly, I'm not sure how feasible this will be either. The system relies on wiping events between game days. It'd require a bit of a rework to handle it. I'll put it on the back burner. If others of you think this is important, please speak up.

Is there a reason this couldn't just be put on the end of the event description? Or are you not wanting it to show up in the sign-up sheets?

Neal, that's some sharp work right there! Looks good! One catch-22: Now that the tool tips go away tidily, you can't possibly click any links within them, because the second you move away from the Question mark, they disappear. my preference would be to remove any links from inside the tool tips to a more stable location on-screen, or remove them entirely, but I don't have any easy answers for that one.

More on Pre-gens and useful features tomorrow - gotta go home!

Yes, good point. I can make them 'sticky' (so they don't close) with a 'Close' link for the ones that have links, or do as you suggest and move the links out of there. Will have to look and see, don't think there's really that many are there?

Finally the Quotable Quotes!...

These first ones are all from the Honey I Shrunk the Adventurers game:

"Who's the 'bobby pin' now!?" - Belen Umeria (as the acquisitive Rogue)

"Dwarves don't 'doink'! They 'donk'!" - Jon Potter (as the no-nonsense dwarf)

"Who wants the Wand [of healing]?" - Jon Potter
"Are you coming on to me?" - Rel (as the cloyingly cheery female Monk)
"Grow a beard and we'll talk." - Jon Potter

"Hello, it's a +1 Sword! I can slice newspaper!" - Belen Umeria

"That is a Collossal Teddy Bear." - Belen Umeria

"You see a gold coin. It is gold coin shaped." - Alenda (as our fearless GM)

"+2 vs. Rat Phallus?!" - Thaniel (as the Elven Ranger)

"It may be inside your pants. You never know." - Thaniel

This next couple are from my Sky Galleons of Mars game. As usual, I wrote down fewer quotes while I was GMing than I did while playing.

"There's no reason to lose your life over some...Martian!" - Alenda (as Lizzie Jameson)

"Action points are like CANDY!" - Alenda

If others jotted down any further quotes then I encourage you to post them.
