Guess What?! NC Game Day VIII is September 10th!

Thanks. When I first discovered Risus, I was surprised that I couldn't find anything similar, that's why I developed my own. I have a bunch more that I haven't posted to the website (mostly because they don't use the iconic characters).

In every game I ran, the players had absolutely no trouble switching to the descriptive style of combat. They picked it up in the first round of the first combat. This was with three different gaming groups (and new players in each session).

I decided to send you a copy of the characters and the general outline of the adventure I've got planned. I'm sending it to your gmail account.

If you've got time to look them over and send me any feedback, I'd love to hear it. But don't feel obligated to do so if you are busy with other stuff (including your pregnant wife). I just figured that you might want to look it over at some point anyway.

Well...

That'll teach me for not checking the messageboard everyday. I'm already in Raleigh at my sis's house. And now I see Henry has withdrawn his attendance.

Well, Rel, I'd sure like to take you up on your superhero game. I might as well do something while I'm in town :)

Sorry to hear about your lack of attendence, Henry, but no harm no foul :)

Don't worry, we're gonna have fun. With the zany premise of this game, it will be impossible not to.

Dangit once a-friggin-gain. As soon as I mentioned the Game Day to my brother-in-law, he got interested in it (hoodathunk?) But he said he'd much rather try to get into one of the 3e walk-in games. So it looks like that's first on the agenda. But, if all those are filled, I'm still in there for a supers game. [shrug] I really need to get all my ducks in a row before I start saying stuff. [makes a mental note]

Just in case, I'm familiarizing myself with the Risus system

Well. My SR game ran seriously over (as usual) but everyone was with me to the hard bloody end. And my feet hurt (i run standing up and running round the table constantly).
3 hours of them chattering up contacts and snooping and planning, 3 and a half of the run. Not too bad - but OW. Bad feet.

Home and awake now (my awesome wife let me sleep in), I'm happy to announce that it was another highly successful NC Game Day. As usual things didn't go quite as I expected. And also as usual, things turned out fine.

It turned out that there were just not enough displaced gamers who hadn't found other games for me to put together my Risus Stuperheroes game. But that turned out to be a blessing in disguise since there ended up being some empty slots in Alenda's "Honey I Shrunk the Adventurers" game. That was tremendous fun (basically our PC's got reduced in size to the size of their figures).

We battled cockroaches, dustbunnies, children and teddy-bear golems before we finally managed to find the antidote that returned us to normal size and defeat the B(BC)BEWC (that's Big {by comparison} Bad Evil Wizard Chick).

In the afternoon, my Sky Galleons of Mars: Assault on Kraag Borovar game went well yet again. This having been the 4th time I've run the scenario in just over a month, it is intensely interesting to me to see how different groups of players play the same PC's in very different ways. And things ended differently each time I ran it so that's always fun.

I didn't get much of a chance to circulate among the other games but we were all in a pretty confined area. From where I was sitting, it looked like everybody was having fun. My concerns that the relatively light attendance might hurt the fun were unfounded and this supports the sense I've always had that "size doesn't matter" when it comes to Game Days. I was particularly pleased with the number of first time attendees that we had, including some folks who are faily new to gaming.

The only thing that I was dissappointed in was that there were a couple of "no shows" that we've still not heard from. I can't fully convey how much of a hassle it is for GM's who are waiting to start their game and having one or two players who they are not sure are actually coming. In the future I'm going to lay out a specific policy that we'll follow in terms of when your slot becomes forfeit to walk ins. Any input on this topic would be appreciated (and feel free to e-mail it to me if you'd rather not post it here on the boards).

But I don't wish to overstate that one small negative. On the whole it was a very successful Game Day and I enjoyed it very much. I think others did too. Thanks to all who made it out this time.

I'll post the considerable list of quotable quotes a bit later.
