d4: Yeah, but... Hardcover. 512 pages (Vol I & II total). Revisions that have been needed for while... and they took the time to do right. I'm feeling like a school girl in a short skirt. And why be diehard anything? I've been a fan of GURPS and D&D together for a looong time :).
i will definitely be checking it out, don't worry. :)

i wonder how far the revisions are going to go, and it what direction. i've been moving away from simulationist "realistic" gaming toward something more cinematic lately, and i always found that that style wasn't very easy to do in GURPS. i trust Dr. Kromm and David to do a good job with the system, but i don't know if it's going to match what i want anymore.

i am looking forward to GURPS Fantasy by William H. Stoddard. i've been waiting for that one since i heard a rumor he was writing it like four years ago.

and Infinity Unlimited is going to be the "core" GURPS setting? awesome. that always was my absolute favorite GURPS setting. i even have playtest credit in Alternate Earths 2. :)

so even if i forgo getting the core rulebooks, i'll definitely pick up Fantasy and Infinity Unlimited.

interesting that GURPS is finally moving to all hardcover and full-color. times are indeed changing...

one last thought: how is this going to affect ongoing GURPS lines like Transhuman Space and WWII?

I'm really looking forward to this. I hope they adjust the Eidetic Memory advantage to make it more useable. My friend has a PC that has Full Eidetic Memory, but it makes mental skills far too easy to purchase IMO. I don't like the advantage in its current form.

The GURPS game system is one of the best for simulating pseudo-realistic combat. I use no other system for modern day campaigns. No other system really compares when it comes to martial arts and gun combat IMO.

Thanks for the info Cthulu.

I hope they get with the program and release them under the OGL!
I can pretty much bet the farm that Steve Jackson will NEVER release anything under a license similar to the OGL. He has repeatedly stated his dislike of the OGL and is strongly in favor of maintaining Intellectual Property rights. Besides, if you look at their website they are pretty generous in what they will allow you to do with their game.

OGL is based on several market conditions only WotC has:
- PHB sales are what drives their finances.
- All supplements to PHB drive sales to PHB. Even 3rd party supplements.
- All games other than D&D enhance sales to D&D.

For GURPS:
- Supplement sales are what drives their finances.
- 3rd party supplements eat into that.
- All GURPS supplements enhance sales to D&D.

Anyway, SJGames has always been Internet friendly, and fan-authored sites have always been allowed.

I don't mean to be a Cinematic Unisystem whore, but if your looking for a fairly dramatic cinematic system to run, I'd reccomend looking at Beyond Human when it's released. I believe it's fairly generic scalable approach will bring quite a few more players into the Unisystem fold.

Just based on the mileage I've been able to get out of the Buffy core rulebook, for a variety of settings, I'll definitely be picking up Beyond Human.

I've just send an email to all my regular players (12) to inform them that the actual possession of (at least) the "Character" core book will be required at my table from August/September on!

I will also order the "Deluxe" set.

Are you sure 13 Character Core books are enough at the table? Get a 14th, mang, it's the only way to be sure! :p

Amen brother:)

If I recall correctly, I came to D&D before GURPS; but I have probably spent more total gaming years on GURPS.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
...squeals like little girl

That's what I said when I read the news! $65 on 3.5e and (probably)$60 on the 2 core GURPS 4E books.... man, I'm strung out on this stuff!!! I love addiction!

Kidding aside, I'm totally stoked for the new edition and for the full color books.
