GURPS WWII - Darkest Hour (Started but still Recruiting. No really)

Ham, - Takes many things lightly and with humor, even life or death matters, but does not make fun of other peoples sadness etc. (wouldn't make a joke about a guy who saw his father mowed down or etc.)

I'll edit in the points by putting them in brackets.

I'll also do the history write up which will explain why he isnt a pilot. Also why Arthur Insists on carrying his katana, even if it is hard to conceal and obvious ;). Would he be allowed to wear his purple/black robe?

I was thinking of playing a Russian who has become disillusioned with Communism, and is now working with the British. I can fill the demolitions role, if nobody else claims it.

Well, their not not roles as such, just sugestions I was trying to think of examples. Other archetypes include:

1) The Leader guy. Has to keep everybody else together, motivated and as a team. He also has to keep them alive and acomplsih the mission, not necessarily in that order. It is highly unlikely that he'll lack Military Rank, but probably not higher than 4.

2) Medic. Not an overt red cross wearer - who, in theorey, could not bear arms - but someone with an ability to patch people up.

3) The Combat Guy. Most people in the group willl be combat capable, this however is the person who does nothing else besides and is rather good at it. If it's designed to kill people, he can use it, and even if its isn't, that won't stop him trying...

4) Techie. Medics fix people, you fix gear. Radios, weapons, vehicles, whatever. And you usually end up using it too.

GWolf:

Hmm, pushing towards getting a trademark here at this rate.
Wearing black / purple robes in the field? Probably not, a lot depends on the CO and the mission, but I await your background with interest.

Macbeth:
Exiled russian fine, guy who blows things up also fine.

I Was pushing your buttons about the robes. The Katana I was serious about though.

-Even though robes would be a trade mark :)

as for background look for it late tonight (gmt -5 time) around priobabll 1030-11

I'll try and post my character by Thursday night at latest. Are we sticking with the 1940 Timeline ?

And I was expecting a more 'traditional' military campaign - you no, less the purple robes and katana (no offense). Will anyone else be playing the standard fare 'Saving Private Ryan' military personell ?

If not, would you rather me play a British Commando instead of a sniper ? It's kind of hard for a single sniper to make himself useful when one character is setting explosive charges (nice write up on the Russian by the way), and the other is stalking people with Katana.

I'll play whatever would work with your adventure idea the best.

Macbeth - ok, cool.

Language (Russian) 18 [12]
As I am presuming Russian is native, default is IQ and 1 point per point above that, so you have an extra 7 points to spend.
Survival (Woodlands or Arctic) might be an idea as he's been in Finland, possibly Stealth also or background stuff.

Don't feel the need to spend starting cash on weapons and equipment, you will get issued it. Spending money however, means that it's yours, which can be good and bad. Just bear in mind that reliable sources of .30-06 outside the US and UK are quite rare at this time...

GWolf,
good, no robes. So, he's quiet, nimble and good at hitting people with a long and really sharp bit of metal. Awaiting the background, until I get that all I'll say is that you might want to up his skills for silent sentry elimination / unarmed combat to give him more of schtick to be with the group and not dump 16 points into a skill of highly dubious practical useage. You may want Climbing also, with that high DEX...

Melkor,
See above. A straight British guy gives the more unusual PCs someone to react against, but it is up to you what you want, with 125 points a Commando who makes a fair sniper should be possible - for comparison Commando is a 75 point template and Sniper a 65 point - and there is a fair degree of overlap between the two. He could be a good shot with a lot of weapons, which, if we have a close combat. Also the standard British Infantry anti-tank weapon at this time is a Rifle, which makes being good with one useful...
Yep, startdate is staying at beginning September 1940

Sorry of r the dealy

It took longer then I thougt because I made it longer then I thought. I've edited it in. Despite what might be better for the character, I intend to keep him the way he is, unless that is complelty unacceptable.?

I need ot make a minor change though because I left out fast draw katana. That is a an important skill, I'll make a change or 2 and fix that.

Also I am removing horse riding...don't quite know why I have it there.

Also as it says in Martial Arts book, used two handed (as Arthur does) a katana parry is 2/3 skills. So it shuldbe 12.

Ok List of Changes:
-Removed Horse Riding
-Removed One Point from Pickpocket
-Added Fast-Draw/Katana with 2 points
-Fixed Parry
-Added background
-Damage goes up by one when 2 handed.

My reasoning on the high skill in russian is that I wanted him to really feel like English is a second language. I know that its odd to actually use skill points on a native language, but I wanted to really make a big difference between his well spoken, highly developed Russian, and his stumbling, barely passable english. If you want me to drop the Russian skill, I can see why, but I'm fine with wasting a few points just for flavor.
