Half-fiend planetouched

Simple question: Is there anything wrong with applying the half-fiend template to a tiefling?

And a followup - is there such a thing as a half-anarchic or half-axiomatic creature, to pair with the axiomatic and anarchic creature templates?

Cheers,

As per RAW, I don't think there's anything wrong with applying the half-fiend template to a tiefling... I just don't think it makes sense. How can a creature have fiendish origins way back in their bloodline, and also have their pops be Satan. No dice in my book.

And I think no on the 1/2 anarachic/axiomatic creatures... You have their planetouched counterparts in MM2... but a half slaad, or half.... formorian? is just too weird to comprehend... or if it has been comprehended... I've never seen a template for it.

If you're taliing from a player perspective, there's this from the WotC site.

If you're talking from a DM's perspective, then I think Rule Zero should apply. I certainly wouldn't think twice about slapping a half-fiend template on a tiefling if that's what the game called for. The half-whatever template doesn't have to represent parentage; it could be the result of magical experimentation or some bizarre plane-travelling accident.

As for 1/2 axiomatic/anarchic, I've never heard of such although I'd be surprised if it hadn't been third-partied somewhere.

When you are 40%-60% demonic blood as a Half-Fiend, it does not really make much sense to stack on the planetouched for that 3% demonic heritage.

But I agree there may be valid in game reasons to go that way. How to balance out the LA will require a delicate touch.

I didn't think you could apply the half-fiend template to an outsider? If that's true, you can't apply it to a Tiefling or Aasimar. Rule Zero always applys, of course.

Nope, it can be applied to any living, corporeal creature of a non-good alignment. You could have a half-fiend balor, if you wanted, I suppose.

This isn't for a PC, I should note. I'm running ideas through my head for high-level opponents. :)

1/2 Fiend Balor... "More demon than... demon!"

It'd be pretty scary, wouldn't it.

No less odd, I suppose, than a dwarf taking levels in a dwarf racial paragon class or something.

"I'm more dwarf than you!"

Lets say your grandmother slept with an incubus. By accident. 2 generations later, you pop out, a tiefling. You start planeswandering, when you hit a reasonable age, and meet a cute Incubus in a bar. One thing leads to another, and 9 months later, you have a half-fiend tiefling baby.

Whats the problem?
