Half-Troll?

Wow, the people here are really nice, thank you all for your help, personally, I'm liking Stormborn's idea of

Fast Healing 5, cannot heal fire or acid damage normally.

I think the troll's regeneration was that they could not immediately regenerate from fire or acid. Over time and with rest they could heal burns but it would be like any other non-supernatural creature.

Wasn't there a troll-blooded feat of sorts in a recent dragon magazine? Could only be taken at 1st lv, had toughness as a prereq, granted regen1, but you were fatigued in sunlight. Just wear thick robes to block out the sun's rays and you should be fine.:)

+2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence, - 2 Charisma
A half troll's base land speed is 30 feet.
Dark-vision 30 feet, Lowlight vision
Fast Healing 5, cannot heal fire or acid damage normally.
Scent
Automatic Languages: Common, Giant. Bonus Languages: Any.
Favored Class: Fighter.
Level adjustment +1.

But I could also incorporate a claw attack ...

That looks a little strong for +1 LA to me.

Maybe so, you could drop Fast Healing down to 2 and remove Scent. I dont think the addition of a weak claw attack would add much more than flavor. Compare it to the Hobgoblin v. Drow - even with no changes to my original post I think it may be better than the Hob but significantly weaker than the +2 Drow. For that matter, compare the Dwarf to the Hobgoblin, the Hobgoblin is only slightly better and that can be argued. Its an inelegant system after all.

Natural weapons usually don't mean much. I think dropping it to fast healing 1 and removing scent would probably be about right; two abilities that aren't normally found in PC races seems a little strong for just +1.

What if they kept Fast Healing 2, took the limited scent ability designed for Lupins from Dragon and some Nezumi subraces in OA, and maybe gave them a -2 Wis OR -2 Dex?

Hmm... I guess that really depends on how attractive you would like the race to be. That would be a pretty sweet deal, but perhaps not unbalanced for +1.

"Trollkin" are a player character race in Iron Kingdoms.

+2 Str, +4 Con, -2 Dex, -2 Cha

Darkvision 30'

Heal Twice Normal, +4 racial bonus to save vs. Poison, +2 racial bonus vs. Disease, severed limbs may be reattached and heal in 2-7 days, or regrow in a month or two.

"Poison Resistance" 4

DR (Con bonus)/- vs. subdual damage only. Apllies to subdual damage from environmental effects, but doesn't reduce damage below 1 hit point.

LA: +1

This is more balanced. IMHO, any degree of Fast Healing is worth at least a +1 LA *all by itself*. Note that the stat bonuses and penalties Stormborn suggested don't actually "cancel out" either, especially given Favored Class: Fighter. Strength and Constitution bonuses are worth much more than a penalty to "dump stats".
