You can use any X-box in two hands but at varying penalties.

SRD said:
Crossbow, Hand: You can draw a hand crossbow back by hand. Loading a hand crossbow is a move action that provokes attacks of opportunity.

You can shoot, but not load, a hand crossbow with one hand at no penalty. You can shoot a hand crossbow with each hand, but you take a penalty on attack rolls as if attacking with two light weapons.

Crossbow, Heavy: You draw a heavy crossbow back by turning a small winch. Loading a heavy crossbow is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity.

Normally, operating a heavy crossbow requires two hands. However, you can shoot, but not load, a heavy crossbow with one hand at a –4 penalty on attack rolls. You can shoot a heavy crossbow with each hand, but you take a penalty on attack rolls as if attacking with two one-handed weapons. This penalty is cumulative with the penalty for one-handed firing.

Crossbow, Light: You draw a light crossbow back by pulling a lever. Loading a light crossbow is a move action that provokes attacks of opportunity.

Normally, operating a light crossbow requires two hands. However, you can shoot, but not load, a light crossbow with one hand at a –2 penalty on attack rolls. You can shoot a light crossbow with each hand, but you take a penalty on attack rolls as if attacking with two light weapons. This penalty is cumulative with the penalty for one-handed firing.

No, you can't make two succesive Death Attacks.

Yeah. Hand crossbows are there if you want to use TWF with them. Otherwise, yes, you're quite right, light crossbows are better.

There's also the concealability aspect of the hand crossbow, just as there is with the dagger.

Where do you found those rules? There are little info about crossbows in my players hand book, but not that much. And can i load and shoot light crossbow in same turn since loading is move action?

Btw, welcome to the board :)

The System Reference Document (SRD) is a compilation of the Open Game License (OGL) rules for D20. You can see them in a number of places eg here http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/ but basically what I copy-pasted is what is in the Equipment chapter in the PHB.

Yes, you can usually load and fire a hand or light x-bow in the same round.

death dealing hand crossbows of sneaky success

I made a character designed on shooting two hand crossbows at the same time. right now I'm a rog 3/ sor 1 but as soon as I hit level 9 here's what's going on:
PBS
Presice shot
quick draw
rapid reload
TWF
(later) improved TWF

I have two hand crossbows with wristwraps attached. I shoot both, then drop 1 and reload the other (free action) shoot, drop, quick draw the other (free action) reload it (free action), and shoot again: 4 attacks with hand x-bows, and what's even better is that I'm using magic to make me get that sneak damage (blink, then later improved inv, then later still improved blink).

I'll let you know how it goes in another five levels or so.

Isn't there a rule that you can't use a free action to do the same thing in the same round twice? Or something to that effect? That's a lot of free actions going on...
