I think I saw someone float it in a thread, and it's something I've thought about myself a bit. And, as someone who has played Guild Wars, I've seen something similar work.

So here's my thought - after level 20, a set amount of XP gained allows for a player to gain an additional feat, with no change in any other stat (skills, HD, BAB, Spells per day, Etc). The question is, should Epic Feats be the same as normal feats? Or do new feats need to be developed?

EDIT: Sorry, had to rush the post.

For instance, an example of epic feats would be epic spells - fluffed as independent research, these rituals often require recruiting non-epic spellcasters to help. This is for stuff like mythals (although we can't call it that as the term is WotC property).

Hmm, the biggest issue I'd see with you running into using epic feats without advancing into higher epic levels is that a lot of the feats had higher level requirements than you could get with 20th level characters. Also, with the skill check requirements for epic spells you might be limited there.

Another thing, would you allow the ability boost feats (Great Int, Great Str, etc.)? That might make some characters, especially spellcasters and their save DCs, much more powerful than their levels would indicate (rather than just expanding the breadth of their knowledge.)
 

Well, epic feats would have to be retooled/created to work with this in order to address power issues. Plus, what does one need epic spells for when one has Wish?
 

The Wish spell itself has limitations built in... limitations that epic spells were designed to actually perform beyond that.

Plus, stuff like empowering a spell by burning magic items (or souls!) to get greater desired effects, etc.

However, as the E20 name would imply, you'd have to rewrite everything in the epic rules to fit limiting the numbers at 20th level.
E6 feats that went beyond 6th level had to be rewritten, for example. So this would be no different.

I could see this working, actually. It bypasses one of the major issues with Epic levels (making the d20 less of a factor, and the gap in High vs Low bonuses being ridiculous).
 

It might be worth having a look at the original "cut" of the Epic rules as presented in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. I seem to recall that a lot of people preferred that simpler version to the ELH.
