I thought of this last night and had to share.

A few years ago I said the word anthropomorphized. A guy accused me of making it up. I had to take out a dictionary and show him.

unless you encountered the word anthropomorphized in normal conversation someone who has never heard it is of course going to think it's made up. (is that better?)

I think I was looking at it thusly; if I hear a word for the first time, I don't think it's made up by that person. I think it's a new word that I just learned. It boggles my mind that someone jumps to I made up the word. What if I didn't have a dictionary handy? I was using it as an example of some of what has been said. I get all words were made up and are still being made up, because we keep coming up with new things.

Depends entirely on the specific situation. I do, however, often find it useful. Not least of all for allowing me to not waste my time replying to posts that aren't worth acknowledging.

I enjoy reading Battlefield Earth, I know all about L Ron Hubbard and Scientology but I don't care about any of that, I just enjoy reading the book. I may also get the audio book because it's done with a full cast.

I read the first book while on a summer vacation and left it at that. A fun light read, bun not really my thing.

Amusingly, at the time, they were having a contest for a walk-on role in the movie. Thing is, the movie didn’t get made for something like a decade later. I have no idea what happ to the contest winner.

The first book? There's only one book and it's a doorstopper. He did write a series in which aliens attempt to curb or stop global warming or something like that.

Some of the world-building in Battlefield Earth is interesting, for example, some of the various aliens have a different number base other than 10.
