Harniacs vs. d20/D&D players

Stay a while Nick, read the storyhours - maybe we can convert you to d20 :p :D

I read the thread and agree you were not flaming :)

But then that would suggest that people on the harn forum dislike Falstaff because he's pro-D20, whereas in fact it's because he's a troll.

Well I do not want to throw stones in a glasshouse but Falstaff claimed he would use HM instead because it was a far better system than d20. He even agreed to this after reading, I think, Kantrip's post if you look back earlier under this thread. I am beginning to think that this is getting out of hand and I would advise Falstaff to stop before he is banished from yet another forum. Trolling will get him nowhere...

Gasp... People on the EnWorld Forum are agreeing with Nick... What's next? Monte Cook becoming a monk...? My weak old heart... And the day Nick converts is the day when Pigs will fly... :p

Harn is flame bait

First, I must agree with whoever said KK is his own worst enemy. Amusingly true. I myself have given up attempting to explain why I like Hârn and HârnMaster because it's very, very hard to do without sounding like an elitist pig and getting the D&D folks very defensive. So I'm reading KKs comments and thinking "Oh, man, that's not going to go over well..."

Seems the more you try to explain what makes Hârn so neat, the more you dig yourself into a hole and have everyone looking at you like you have some sort of superiority complex.

Sigh... Alas... Woe... all of that whiny crap...

Please forgive KK for his enthusiasm. He's not trying to be offensive. If I tried to explain why I think Hârn is so cool I'm sure some would think I was an elitist ass, too.

BTW, Hârn and HârnMaster are two different things. Hârn is the setting and is system independant. HârnMaster, the RPG system, was developed later, to compliment Hârn. There is lots of HârnWorld info in the various rules.

For a good, concise, and hopefully non-inflammatory intro to Hârn, please see my D20 Hârn Guide over at my Shadow of Bukrai site.

Let me try. Puts on "Harniac" hat.

"I like Harn and Harnmaster because I'm interested in a detailed and realistic setting and rule system, and they provide exactly that. I find the setting particularly vivid, thanks in large part to the large amount of detail that's been poured into it over the years. And the system provides the kind of gritty, low fantasy realism that I like."

How's that?

I first played Rolemaster when I was 17. I would like to consider myself well educated though, even at 17. I spell worse than a five year old at times, a quirk I have never quite understood or managed to remedy, but beyond that...

Started GMing MERP on my 13th birthday, and finished moving fully to RM2 around 16 (after a 12 month diversion with WFRP).

BTW Shark, after that post I now see why so many people on these boards have so much respect for you.

And also BTW, Truffle Grubber, that is the best name EVER. :D

To be honest, most people who play DnD *are* lowest common denominator types, because it's the easiest to get into, and LCD's don't like spending energy to go outside of their comfort zone.

Bull. This is elite snobbery.
