Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix (film #5) - Rampant speculation and bashing!

OK, so after having seen HP#4 last night, today I looked up what scant information there is on film #5 in the IMDB.

I'm a little worried (already!)--there is a new writer and he's got very few credits listed. I think having one writer adapt the first four films helped a lot for consistency.

And the director--never heard of him. Has anyone seen anything he's done?

I liked the new Peter Pan, so Michael Goldenberg might be a good choice. I agree it would be best if they could keep the same screenplay writer, but things rarely go that perfectly...

I've never seen any of the director's films. He's from England so maybe he can add a bit more "Britishness" to the film. :p His fans on the IMDB message board seem confident enough in his ability to do a HP film. We'll see!

The movie will probably suck. I enjoyed the first 3 but the books are too long and they'll have to cut top much. But on the plus side the Narnia comes out soon.

I heard rumors they'll be splitting Order of the Pheonix into 2, 2 hour movies to be released during the two blockbuster seasons. Summer and Winter (of 07 i think)

That was the rumour for "Goblet of Fire," and that was changed by the director (on the advice of previous film director Cuaron).

Book 4 as a movie was fine and book 5 will be easier to chop down as there is a lot of routine in it

OotP is a much simpler story line than GoF, so I can't see them dividing it into two movies. Most of the book was a waste of dull repitition and teen angst. If not for the final battle scene, one of the best I have ever read, the book would have been complete trash. It makes me sad to say it because of the DA which was very cool and the detentions with Ms, Umbram, but those two points are overwhelmed by crap

Yeah, a lot can be cut from book 5.

Myself, I'm hoping that battle at the end comprises most of the movie! ;)

I also liked Luna, but she doesn't do much in book 6 (or, actually, much in book 5 except use her father's paper to get Harry's story out--and with how they ended film 5, maybe they're dropping that "government denial" plot twist in the films), so there's no reason to give her a decent part in film 5. :(
