Has Anyone Run a D20 Gamma World Campiagn?

My Forgotten Realms campiagn is about 2 months away from ending (4 game sessions). As a group we've purchased copies of the GW PHB for all the players and myself, and a few of us have the D20 Modern core rules. I've picked up all the GW books, and have the D20 Modern Firearms, Future, and Apocalypse books as well (all unread as of yet) as well as D20 Darwin's World. My first rpg campiagn (not game) was TSR's 1st Edition GW game back when I was in middle school (sometime during the late bronze age) and so I was quite excited about D20 GW. It's not exactly what I was expecting... not terrible, but not the fantastic setting I was hoping for either.

I dislike the new GW's take on psionics as well as nanotechnology, and I'm not terribly enthusiastic about the mutations (they are okay, but old favorites are missing). I like the way psionics are handled in Darwin's World and will likely follow that example. What I'd really like to know is if anyone has run a game in the new GW setting and what they did to customize it and how that worked out for them.

Anyone?

I'm a HUGE fan of Omega World, the d20 Gamma World minigame from Dungeon / Polyhedron magazine.

HUGE fan.

You can get it from Paizo publishing still, in Dungeon 94 / Polyhedron 153.

Gamma World d20 is an excellent game also, it is, however, NOT the Gamma World you are used to from the older editions. Omega World is a more dirrect descendent from thsoe games than GWd20.

D20 Darwin's World is also pretty nice, although also not what I'm looking for in my GW campaign - Omega World handled GW for my play group perfectly as we ran through a series of six old GW modules that I converted on the fly.

Me, too. I liked it so much I bought 2 copies in addition to my subscription copy: 1 to keep and 1 to give to a friend. Happily that friend ran it a few times for me--but I wish he would run it more!

Last year, I ran the adventures in the back of the Alternity Gamma World (AGW) book using the Omega World (OW) rules as a mini campaign. It was great. The AGW story line is worth picking up that book on eBay (read the into and all the adventures to get the real feel for the world). I also cut my teeth on 1st edition Gamma World (GW), so OW really appeals to me for that classic feel. Plus, Jonathon Tweet is a gneius when it comes to presenting the OW mini-game in bite-sized chunks. It really gets done in about 40 pages what all those other games you mention struggle to do in several hundred.

The best part of OW for you as a DM is that the campaign section is so darn strong. It is very easy to make foes & NPCs with the sections on OW monsters and the table with quick NPC explorer stats. The conversion work I did was very simple, even though the Alternity and d20 engines are somewhat dissimilar (to me, anyway, I never understood Alternity).

Pick up OW and good luck with your game!

Okay, I just orderd Dungeon 94 from them a few mintues ago. Looking forward to what it has to say. Thank you for the tip. I do own the Alternity Gamma World Game, though I picked it up online more for nostalgia than because I intended on using it. I'll look through that as well.

Edit: Correction... I am STILL trying to order issue 94... gods their web page is glaical!

"Gamma World" d20?

not with a 10 foot pole.

I'm much happier with the older editions. If I wanted a d20 take, I'd use Darwin's World or Omega World. Heck, I think Cartoon Action Hour by Z-Man would do a pretty decent GW.

The new sourcebook for d20 modern is pretty good. There are a few threads on the OGL boards here talking about the game, including a Q&A thread with Darrin D.
