Has anyone run the entire Dragonlance saga?

G'day!

I was just wondering if there was anyone here who had DMed or played through the entire Dragonlance Saga (DL1-14, or the Dragonlance Classics reprint series).

It is one of the things I want to do before I die. :)

I bought the modules as I was growing up. I loved reading them, I loved reading the novels (though I don't like the world as an ongoing setting for D&D adventures). I've run DL10 a couple of times, likewise with DL1, but I've never got any further into the series.

I know that they have a bad reputation for railroading (often deserved, especially in the earlier modules), but there are also some extremely innovative settings and adventure ideas in the series.

So, has anyone here run them all, or played through the entire sequence?

Cheers!

Actually, could someone tell me what actually is the Dragonlance classics series? Is it all DL1-16, or only some of those, or what?

DL1 thru DL4 are modules and form the first of the three arcs.
DL5 is a sourcebook, including errata for the first 4 modules, character sheets, a star map, information on the gods, and so on.
DL6 thru DL9 are modules that form the second of the three arcs. DL8 has Battlesystem rules for running the battle at the High Clerist's Tower.
DL10, DL12, DL13 and DL14 are modules that form the third of the three arcs. DL14 also has a sourcebook section included. DL12 and DL14 have Battlesystem rules for running some of the battles.
DL11 was a strategy game with a map of Ansalon, counters, and rules for conducting mass battles. Rules for incorporating this with Battlesystem were also included.
DL15 and DL16 were adventure collections, with DL15 having more sourcebook information.

Cheers,
Cam

I've played a couple of them and run a couple of them.

My advice: make sure your group wants to play, essentially, the story in the book, otherwise it'll lose its charm fast. :) That reputation is very well-deserved.

We played through the first two sets, I played the first one and ran the second.

I echo the Jester's comments. We played through them with characters that were not the designed ones, and it caused many interesting issues with the outcome of the game. If your players are not as much in love with the series as you are, it will seem like a complete railroad.

All hail Kiria and Lochlan (aka slice and dice)
All hail Save the World Inc. (which we call our group).

I have some of the modules but have never run them. They few dragonlance gmes we had were set in the world but had little to do with the novels.

I did, one of my great memories as a youth. I got the first novel, along with DL 1-5 the same day. We ran them all the way through, taking breaks to return to the regular Greyhawk game while waiting for new modules to come out.

The classic DL saga, along with Temple of Elemental Evil were the best lessons a young GM like me could have received in campaign construction.

We played the original dragonlance modules all the way through, back in the late 80s. We hated it so much we stopped playing D&D. I only played once between then and 3rd edition, and just because some friends needed to fill a slot for a tournament. I believe two of the guys in the group never played D&D again.
