Has enthusiasm died?

exactly, buzz. d20 Modern players who don't own or play D&D most likely don't want D&D-isms like mind flayers, bugbears, and "fire-and-forget" magic. those who do want those elements already have the their D&D books. so they have to lug an extra book to the table. boo hoo. sorry, can't get worked up about that.

especially when it means taking away space in the core rulebooks from things that would've served modern-era gaming better (like the previously mentioned Grays, Bigfoots, and such).

What's done is done.

This "woulda, coulda, shoulda in the first place" debate has to end here. They're not going to revise the core rulebook anytime soon. If they do, it'll piss a lot of gamers off, including me. (Yes, I still have not upgraded my D&D books to 3.5e, so why should I upgrade d20 Modern for a revision you guys prefer?)

I still believe we have a good set of rules for modern-day roleplaying, with or without FX, with or without creatures.

i agree completely. i apologize if it sounds like i'm whining. :)

Count me in as agreeing with the Ranger, too. If they ever *do* make a revision, I hope that the kind of changes we've been discussin will be made. But even if they never do, I'm totally happy with d20 Modern as-is, wacky nonlethal damage rules and all. :)

Oddly enough I don't have a copy on the Monster Manual right now, I traded my 3rd edition core books for the Alternity core books. :)

Bizzare trade- the 3e books probably cost you between 60 and 90, depending on when you got them, while you could have picked up the APHB and AGMG at half-price books or something similar for probably 30 bucks total.

Not that I don't love my Alternity books, and my DarkMatter hardcover is one of my prized gaming books, but really, cost effectiveness, man.

I'm planning on buying the 3.5 box set sometime, my friend lost his old D&D box, and I always have the SRD in between. Also I already had copies of DarkMatter and Starships that people gave me while cleaning their rooms.

Really I loved Alternity. It was probably the best thing TSR made.

Just had bad timing.

I keep my Alternity books with me whenever I move, but have NEVER played a game with them.

True enough.

No it doesn't. It's not a debate anyway, it's a complaint. The day gamers stop complaining about aspects of the game that they don't like is the day the industry is in a sad state of affairs. The fact that I like d20 Modern well enough to complaing about the D&Disms in it is a good sign for the game. And no matter how soon they revise it, it won't be as soon as the revision of Star Wars d20 anyway.

I don't completely agree. What, because you believe that, we should all stop talking about it? I believe d20 Modern is a great system that's been seriously handicapped by the D&Disms attached to it.

I think "seriosly handicapped" is a bit strong, but I do agree that the game would have been much better, imho, without the D&D-isms. I would even have been happy if the core book contained absolutely no FX at all, and a variety of systems presented in a supplementary volume.
